More Umpires Needed For County Baseball And Softball Games More umpires, both male and female, are needed by the Fox Valley Officials association to umpire baseball and softball games this sifmmer in Crystal Lake, McHenry, Cary, Woodstock, Dundee and surrounding areas. Over 2,000 games, ranging from little league to adult ball, will be available with games every day of the week. Weekday games are in the evening and games all day long during the weekends. Comprehensive training sessions for all officials will be given and every new official will work with ex­ perienced officials their first year and is an excellent summer job for college and high school students. The Fox Valley Officials association also officiates football, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, soccer and swimming. While overseas, Erika will be staying with the Erv Hughes family of Chester, Wales. No more than two American teachers have s been placed in any overseas school in the program to help insure the maximum amount of culture sub­ mersion for the American teacher. The IAC will sponsor residencies in selected communities and schools throughout Illinois in cooperation with local arts and civic organizations and school districts. Residencies last from one week (writers) up to a full nine-month school year. - Residencies will be available in the following artistic disciplines: ar­ chitecture, folk arts, visual arts, crafts, dance, film­ making, theater, video, writing, and music (blues, classical, jazz, and modern). Artists-in-Residence de­ vote half of their time to their own work, while ser­ ving the school and com­ munity as catalysts for creative activities and as a r t i s t i c r e s o u r c e s . HAZARDOUS WASTE FUND Effective April 1, the Hazardous Waste Disposal Fee system, will require the Illinois Environmental Protection agency (EPA) to collect one cent per gallon or $2.02 per cubic yard of hazardous waste received from owners and operators of sanitary landfill sites. The $25 million "Hazardous Waste Fund" may be used under the discretion of the Governor and the director of Illinois EPA for certified environmental emergencies. Copies of the March 28 Illinois Register, which defines hazardous wastes, are available from the Office of the Secretary of State, Division of Rules and Regulations, 490 Centennial building, Springfield 62706. Qualification^ include professional high quality work, ability and desire to work with students and, adults on many levels, and past experience with workshop and lecture- demonstration situations. Artists will be provided with studio space and sup­ plies for school and com­ munity projects as well as a regular stipend of $1,222 per month. Artists will spend half of the working week (approximately 20 hours) with , school and community groups ; and devote the rest of the time to their own artistic projects. Finalists will be selected by a state-wide panel of professionals and educators in the discipline by late spring, 1980, Resident artists will then be chosen by the hosting school-community group.
