Five construction ^com­ panies submitted bids and the building commission will hold a meeting to review them. The company to be awarded the contract will be announced at the next meeting on May 6. The Department of Transportation has ap­ proved repair work for Sunnyside drive in the village and work will be done sometime this spring or summer. Money for this work comes from MFT funds. The village received Revenue Sharing funds due them and will hold a public hearing on Revenue Sharing at the May 6 regular business meeting. The meeting at Johnsburg Junior high, 8 p.m. if open to all residents of the village and everyone has a right to voice an opinion as to how the funds should be tised. BOY SCOUT TROOP 455 On Monday, April 7, the Johnsburg Boy Scout Troop 455 held a court of honor, where several boys who were Webelos in 454 of Cub Scouts were accepted into the troop as boy scouts. Father Bartel of St. John the Baptist gave , a benediction < and among the guests of honor was Judge Conrad Floeter of the McHenry County Juvenile Court. The court of honor was held to honor scout Dennis Christy who advanced to the rank of Eagle Scout. This Is the highest rank in scouting and only achieved by many years of hard work. Dennis spent 3 years in cub scouts and the past 6 years in boy scouts. Along with the many achievements necessary to rise to the rank of Eagle Scout Dennis had to perform a community or religious project. He chose to hold rummage sales to raise money for a plaque that will be placed in the Miller Chapel on the corner of Ringwood and Wilmot roads. The chapel was built in 1878 by Mary Miller and people from the Miller settlement in Johnsburg would gather together on Sunday at the chapel for services. Care of the chapel has been passed from the daughter of Mary Miller to family members. The plaque was presented to Lavern Stone, a decendent of Mary Miller. The small Chapel is open and the alter and figures placed there many years ago are intact. Dennis's parents were also honored at this court. Among the letters of congrat­ ulations was a letter from President Carter. Dennis will remain with the scouts as an assistant scout master. The weekend of April 25, the boys of Troop 455, along with many other Boys Scout and Cub Scout troops will go to the Galena prilgrimage. CUB SCOUT TROOP 452 Cub Scout Troop 452 of Pistakee Highlands will hold a bicycle safety day April 26, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Bush school. The Webelos Den of Troop 452 will also be attending the Galena pilgrimage. Since they are younger boys, 12 fathers from the troop will attend this campout. Troop 452 will register scouts for next year on May 28. This is for boys 8 years old or going into third grade. ANNIVERSARIES Our anniversary couples this week are Jody and Larry Dodge, who had their day April 15 and Eleanor and Elbert Schuberth whose day was April 19.Best wishes to you all for many more happy years together. "Bummer the Bee" is a musical recently presented by Hilltop's third grade, performing before students of Hilltop and Edgebrook, with the high point being the performance for the Hilltop PTO. The little actors were highly praised for a fine job. Highlights of the play were a square dance, a tumbling act, and a disco dance. A percussion band made up of third graders played throughout the play, in­ cluding accompaniment to some songs on individual xylophone pieces. The narration, completely in limerick form, was written by Jim R0U1, 3rd grade teacher, and Dawn LaBuy, his sister-in-law, as well as containing changes in words to the popular songs used in the play. Much work by teachers and parents went into this play, the last of presen­ tations annually for the past five years. Bike-A-Thon For Cancer Riders of all ages will converge on the McHenry county fairgrounds Sunday, April 27, for the First Annual McHenry county unit, American Cancer society Bike-A-Thon. The 8-mile course will start at the far eastern gate at the county fairgrounds at 8:30 a.m. and will finish at 2:30p.m. Riders are asked to pick : up sponsor sheets at local stores, banks and savings and loans, and to obtain pledges for their efforts. Ed Egelston, this year's Bike-A-Thon chairman, is looking for a good turnout from McHenry county. "We have a 10-speed bicycle to be awarded to the top rider turning in the highest pledge total. We also have medals for other top riders and Bike-A-Thon T- shirts for everyone with $50 or more in pledges turned in." Slate Concert, Dance The West campus music department, under the direction of John Leigh ty, will present a pops concert and dance Friday, April 25. The gala event will be held in the West campus gym. Groups performing on the concert portion of the evening will be the choruses, stage band, swing choir, and some smaller groups and soloists. The concert will start promptly at 8 p.m., and immediately following the concert, the west stage band will play for some specialty dances for the dancers. Prizes will be given, and awards for "best dancers", "best father-daughter", best "mother-son" will be given. As a special attraction, a local popular musical group will perform the last hour of the evening. They are best know for their revival of 50's and 60's music. All ages will enjoy the concert and the dance. There is an admission charge, and all West music students will have tickets. Tickets will also be available at the door. The public is invited, and proceeds will support the music depart­ ment Spring trip. Egelston continued, "The money raised during the Bike-A-Thon will help to support our community programs of service, education and research. The American Cancer society is vitally involved in basic research to find out the causes of cancer. "We would also like to reach every home in McHenry county with our life-saving message." The American Cancer society offers help to cancer patients and their families, including sick-room equipment, dressings and rehabilitation programs.
