The lady Skyhawks defeated South Beloit 12-3. The game was a defensive game until the seventh when Johnsburg scored eight runs on 6 hits, 2 walks and 2 errors Seniors Lora Jacobs (double and triple in four at bats) and Debbie Herdrick (single and double in four at bats) led the hitting attack. Johnsburg scored in the first inning as the result of a walk, a dropped third strike, a double steal and Debbie Herdrick's single. South Beloit threatened to score in the first as the Skyhawk pitcher. Debbie Herdrick, had trouble with control and walked three batters, but the defense made two strong plays to end the inning with no runs scoring. Lora Jacoobs (3 rbi's), Kim Grenman (2rbi's). Beth Oeffling (2rbi's) and Brenda Bingman <2 rbi's) all produced big hits to keep the seventh inning rally going. Skyhawk pitchers looked good for their first outing of the season. Debbie Herdrick 'recovered from a wild first to pitch a strong 5 innings and earn the win. Ellen O'Malley pitched to 8 batters in two innings. Coach Keri S w a n s o n ' s b a s e b a l l Warriors had five con­ ference baseball games in the Fox Valley with a 2 won, 2 lost, and a tie for their efforts. Early in the week, senior pitcher Joe "Snake" Bellich after two outs and two strikes on the batter gave up a scratch single for the Cary Grove Trojans only ' hit as the Warriors won 10 to 0 in a five inning game. On Thursday after falling behind 5 to 0 to the Crystal Lake Tigers, the Warriors rallied to gain the lead, only to lo^e it, ..arid again tie the game, as darkness prevailed and the teams ended up knotted at 9 apiece, with the game to continue later in the season, when the Warriors travel to Tigertown. Friday saw the Gators of Jim Beck come to town, and put the Warriors down 10 to 0, with Jeff McNish taking his first loss of the season. The Warriors managed only 4 hits and committed 4 miscues in a losing cause. On Saturday the Swanson crew traveled to Jacobs for a twin bill, and again the "Snake" was the master performer, allowing only 5 hits, and striking out 11 as the Warriors won the opener of a twin bill 8 to 1. Joe Bauml with a double, and Len Jensen with a triple led the local attack. In the nightcap the Warriors lost 9 to 6 in 11 innings, as two Golden Eagle home runs in the top of the inning proved the downfall for Colbern, the Warriors pitcher in relief. Doessel led the Warrior hitting with 4 hits, including a double, and two triples. Coach Swanson was unhappy with his Warriors fielding in the second en­ counter, as three miscues paved the way for the Jacobs nine to knot the score in regulation time. This week the Warriors have a full slate of games, winding up hosting the Blue Streaks from Woodstock on Saturday. In the second game Saturday the Warriors had 54 batters at the plate, with the Jacobs hurlers issuing 11 walks, the Warriors had 43 official times at bat, and that has to be some kind of a record.
