All cats found roaming off their own property, will be subject to the same stray law that dogs are. That is to say, after pick up, they will be held three days. Most cat owners don't even consider their pet missing until a week goes by; that's too late. Two kinds of people report cats as strays. The well meaning lady who sees this darling, well-fed cat, or the nasty neighbor who wants to make trouble for you. Regardless of the intent, the result will be the same for the cat. You say that a cat was meant to roam free. I would agree that this was true before the days of the en­ vironmental devastation caused by man. It simply isn't safe for a cat out there anymore. What do you do? We have nine cats and three dogs. My neighbors have never been inconvenienced by my ownership. We have a large cyclone-fenced-in back yard which is divided in half. The half for the cats is enclosed on all sides. They enjoy the out-of- doors, they get to view the birds and rabbits without causing them harm, and I feel safe, in knowing they are safe. Although I have raised all of them as inside cats from their infancy, I can dispute the fallacy that they would never want to go out. We have had to chase a few of them as they slipped right between our legs as the door opened. I then, decided that the "Pussy Pen" was my only hope. They love it. It isn't as purrfect for them as the instinct to roam free at will, but is life perfect for any of us? We must all make concessions. HP desperately needs your help. We need more foster homes. The program is simple. We pay for all medical exams and treat­ ment, you pick the type of pet, how many, when and for how long you will tem­ porarily care for it or them. Our Foster Home chair­ man comes to your home and explains the entire program and forms. You can back out at any time and are under no obligation to provide anything except TLC. Please think about it. Wouldn't you love to have a little puppy or kitten in the house for a little while? Save a life and yet not have it forever. Foster Homes are No. 1 folks in HP...without them we are nothing because we can do nothing. There are more cats and dogs this year. Please, call HP's Foster Home chairman, Patti Cane, 459-6523. HP has been, all last week and they are planning to ask us back once a month to-start. At that time we will De asking the foster homes to come with their pet and be on T.V. Just think, you can be a star! HP's bazaar at the Crystal Point mall will take place April 26 and 27. Bake sale goods, folks to work, and a good attendance are all needed. We will be setting up at 9 a.m. Saturday and donations would be most welcome any time after that. HP Board members will be on hand to answer questions and hopefully make everyone feel at home. Also, once-a-month Board meetings are„ always open to the public; the third Wed­ nesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at HP's store of­ fice, 465 Virginia street, in Crystal Lake. Everyone is welcome. People are calling in or turning in cats who have homes. Due to the new law, every cat is considered a stray and, therefore, won't last long if people turn them in. Unless the cat is ill or in­ jured or hungry (remember cats are almost always hungry), please just let it go. It won't stay at your home long, try not to be concerned. Do not call Animal Control to pick it up. They simply do not have the facilities to care for them, as they are not funded for this service. LOSTDOGS Two black lab pups, males, 459-0057. The Easter Seal Society for McHenry County could not function without a reliable group of volunteers. One of the volunteers who shares much of her time and talent with Easter Seals is Sue Berg, 18, of Wonder Lake. Sue is a Child Care major at McHenry County college and it was her in­ terest in children that first brought her to. the center three years ago. A Y.E.S. (Youth for Easter Seals) member, an Easter Seal- WXRD Dance-a-thon par­ ticipant for the past three years and a tag day donations collector, Sue has often worked for Easter Seals. Sue is described as a warm, caring individual who has also baked cookies for bake sales, worked at the center's children's parties, and donned an Easter bunny suit to have photographs taken with children during telethon days this past March. Easter Seals is proud of the many volunteers who givetf their time and talents to help benefit the han­ dicapped children and adults of McHenry county. To put it in Sue's words, "Easter Seals always needs volun­ teers. It seems like there's never enough to go around. I really enjoy giving my time to Easter Seals and knowing that I'm helping people who really need me." Johnsburg High Presents Cole Porter Favorite Students at Johnsburg high school are hard at work putting the final touches on the musical "Anything Goes". "Anything Goes", with music and lyrics by Cole Porter, will be per­ formed Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3, at 8 p.m. in the Johnsburg high school auditorium. As always, senior citizens will be admitted free of charge to any performance. "Anything Goes" is the hilarious story of what happens on the luxury liner S.S. American in the year 1934. The charactors in the musical are sailing from New York to London. Sailing on the ship is Elisha J. Whitney (played by Mark Leslie) a fmous broker of Wall street, and his flunkey, Bill Crocker (Dana Andreas). Billy & supposed to leave the ship just before sailing to take care of Whitney's business back on Wall street. But when he finds that the girl he loves is also sailing (to be married to someone else) he steals on board and tries to win her back. The girl he loves is Hope Harcourt (played by Marilyn Helsing) and her fiance is Sir Evelyn Oakleigh, a very, very up- percrust Englishman (Tom Liston). Hope's mother is also sailing as her chaperone (Cindy Ahlert) and Billy must also dodge her throughout the voyage. To complicate matters, Moonface Martin (public enemy No. 13) played by Joe Kost, is also sailing with his moll, Bonnie (Kathy Szumlas). Moonface and Billy strike up a quick friendship and Moon helps Billy in his pursuit of Hope. Another friend of Billy's is Reno Sweeney, a famous nightclub singer (Pam Wroblewski) who helps Billy by keeping the Englishman busy so Billy can see Hope. It's a story of disguises, mistaken identities, and a lot of hilarious fun. In additon, the songs by Cole Porter are some of the most famous evfsr written for a musical. JOHN F.
