Earlier this month over 200 court officials and judges convened for a two-day meeting in Champaign to discuss how available technology and business techniques might be used to improve court management and administrative iii- formation systems. Circuit Judge Henry L. Cowlin, clerk of the Circuit court; Vernon W. Kays, Jr., director of Court Services; Dave Klasing, and Trail Court Administrator Lou Czarny represented the 19th Judicial circuit, McHenry county, at the Conference on J u d i c i a l I n f o r m a t i o n Management. The conference brought together the people who will use and finance systems for improving the court in formation system. It is the keystone for a common understanding of the Judicial Management In formation System (JMIS) study, a study to identify and develop realistic plans for the future management and automation of courts records. i Late in 1978, the Supreme court of Illinois recognized the need to reconsider ap- prpaches to court and record management that would meet the diverse needs of Illinois' 102 county courts, 22 circuit courts, and five appellate courts. It approved the JMIS study, which will be completed by late 1980. Commenting on the study project, Roy O. Gulley, d i r e c t o r o f t h e ? a d ministrative office of the I l l i n o i s c o u r t s , s a i d , "Although the Illinois court system is a unified system, there are diverse interests, needs, and functions within it. The Conference on J u d i c i a l I n f o r m a t i o n Management will establish the framework for changing the course of record keeping and management in formation systems in our courts. During the next three months, consultants of Arthur Young $ Company will visit every judicial district and circuit in Illinois, and the purpose of this conference will be to develop a common un derstanding for the ob jectives of the site visits." The administrative office of the Illinois courts, through its Judicial Management Advisory committee, is currently directing three major projects to coordinate the use of automated data processing in the Illinois courts. The first project is to develop a Circuit court coding manual. The project is being completed by SEARCH Group, Inc. under the direction of the Supreme Court Committee on Criminal Justice Programs. Voluntary adoption of the codes and definitions in the new coding manual will be the first step toward the standardization necessary for automated transfer of statutorily required reports. For the second project, the First and Fourth districts of the Appellate court are working together to develop a prototype information system. The third project is the JMIS study, now under way. The well known Adams Brothers, Vince and Clem, also known as "Twelve Feet of Harmony" performed April 19 at the Ozark Folk festival in Mountain View, Ark. yVlso aDDearine on the stage with the Adams bro thers was Grandpa Jones, his wife, and son' and daughter, famed en- tertainers of Hee-Haw and the Grand Ole Opera. The Adams brothers were popular singers in the late 1930's when they appeared on radio stations W.L.S., W.M.R.O. and W.R.O.K. They were in great demand to entertain at meetings and banquets with their jokes and comedy songs? Clem moved to Arkansas several years ago but the brothers -still get together occasionally to do some "Pickin' and Grinnin' ". Citizens Out Against Gypsy Moth Spraying Easy To Clean A comb and brush are easi est to clean by lathering the brush with detergent, soap or shampoo. Run the comb thtough the brush several times. Rinse both under warm water and dry on a towel. At a meeting held Saturday night, April 25, a group ' called Citizens Against the Gypsy Moth met to consider ways to stop the aerial spraying of the pesticide Sevin-4-Oil over 270 acres of residential homes. It was decided by the group that they were definitely in favor of fighting the gypsy moth by means of natural and-or biological methods. They have suggested that concerned citizens who would like to show support agains the aerial spraying, place a sign in their yards, indicating support. The group is looking into various legal alternatives that might be available and has retained the services of an attorney for this purpose. Because of certain court costs, they are asking anyone wishing to contribute to help cover these court costs to send a contribution to the McHenry County Defenders, P.O. Box 603, Crystal Lake, 111., 60014, and mark it on the envelope for the Gypsy Moth fund.
