Would even take a shot at the ad vice if anybody would listen. It was Saturday afternoon when relatives and friends drove in, flew in or just dropped in to the Bill and Skip North home to honor Bill's mother on the occasion of her 90th birthday. When the Joe Norths spent their summers on the shores of Fox River at Johnsburg, some of the girls formed a card club. We were happy to take three of those girls, Genevieve Khox, Dorothy Weber and Lillian Bolger with us to the party. Mrs. Joe (Alvina) Miller was unable to attend. The Knox sisters combined their talents to make a clever birthday card, Genevieve writing the verse and Dorothy the art work. It came out that Mrs. North's super cooking skill was one of the attractions that led friends to her home. At the age of 90, this grand lady is sharp as a tack and thankful for many blessings. "I'm so happy!", exlaimed Mrs. North as she was overwhelmed by events of the day. Her happiness was con tagious. We set sail for home with light hearts and a feeling that few hours with this dear lady must rate with the happiest events of our lives. Don't invite Herb Reihansperger and David Israel, Trib sports writer, to the same party. Israel doesn't waste any sweet talk on Herb's beloved Cubs. How can anybody say such things about those Cubs who haven't done anything to anybody since 1945? Dave Kingman claims he doesn't have a ghost writer as some sports writers would have us believe. - One thing they can't >say about Dangerous Dave is that he has a ghost slam ming those long, booming home runs over the fence. It shouldn't happen, but there is a lot of talk about home town scorers in the big leagues favoring their teams. I believe it. Some of those calls on hits and errors leave a bad aroma in the air. Even some of my detractors have to admit that the White Sox are hotter than a dime store pistol. That young team has the spirit of a hungry young prize fighter. Who makes up those ballots for the Annual All- Star baseball game? Chet Lemon is the only Sox player listed. Now, see this! Bill Buckner, Ivan DeJesus, Barry Foote and Dave Kingman of the Cubs are all listed. There oughta be a law. We welcome Marilyn Ehlen to the sports page this week as reporter of ac tivities in the Pistakee Thursday Women's Golf League. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD St. Charles Wins Title In McHenry High Relays By Dick Rabbitt The expected dual bet ween St. Charles and Naperville North for the McHenry Relays title never materialized as the Saints ran away from the op position to win the meet in easy fashion. Coach Trent Richards just had too many horses for the rest of the field as they ran up 136 pts. to runnerup Naperville North's 66. The Warriors finished 6th in the 16 team field with 24 pts.
