Skyhawk Varsity Nine Blasts Hebron 17 To 9 The Johnsburg varsity baseball squad defeated Hebron 17-9 last Friday at Tigers Field to win its first game of the season after six losses. The Skyhawk batters got things going in the first in­ ning, scoring four runs with Scott Valentin, Randy Wakitsch and Pete Barroso each reaching base with singles. The Johnsburgers were then blanked until the fourth inning when the club scored three runs. Junior right fielder knocked the only single in the fourth for an RBI. It was the fifth inning when the Skyhawks went on another scoring spree. They' knocked in five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Tom Fowler started off the fifth with a* walk, Scott Valentin reached base on an error, Dave Mauer singled, and Kurt Valentin walked. Catcher Randy Wakitsch doubled, bringing home three of the five runs. In the sixth inning, John Armon and Dave Mauer each tripled. Kurt Valentin, Morin and Pete Barroso all reached first safely on singles. Barroso was the winning pitcher, chalking up 12 strikeouts while giving up four runs. Johnsburg hosts a doubleheader with Harvard on Thursday. MCHS Netters Win Three Matches In Week The McHenry High tennis team won three matches last week, defeating Crystal Lake Central, by winning all three singles matches for a score of 3 to 2. They defeated Grayslake by the same score, and then trounced Jacobs 4 to 1 for a pretty good week of tennis. The local frosh-soph defeated Crystal Lake Central by the score of 3 to 2. President Cammie Hunt welcomed all new members as well as previous league players. Our most informative Rules chairman Bernice Dolce refreshed our minds on the rules of golf. It was also decided that Birdie Pins are always in and so are special golfballs. The official starting date is May 29th. So ladies the word is "watch your tee off time" and Happy Golfing! Marilyn Ehlen, Publicity chairman Athletes Terry Reilly, known as "Radar" when he played for Coach Ken Ludwig's MCHS basketball team, has been invited for a tryout for an European professional league. Terry led the champion Vikings of the Valley City State College in scoring and assists. Statistics show 15.5 points per game and four assists. At present, Reilly is student teaching at his school and is also a member of the Viking tennis team which is the defending NDCAC and District 12 champion. His tryout will be in Chicago during the month of June. Crystal Lake South scored two runs in the top of the 7th inning to nip the Warriors as Glick took his first loss of the season. The young Warriors traveled to Zion where they lost a 7 to 3 game to the Zee Bees. Dave Smith was the loser as Dillon had two hits for the Warriors. Mike Dillon came back to win his 3rd game of the season against no losses as the Warriors defeated Jacobs 8 to 3. Burgdorf, with three hits, was the local hitting star of the game. In the second game of the twin biy. Bugs Olekisjew won his first game of the season, as Snyder had three hits in­ cluding a two run double. After taking a 7 to 0 first inning lead at Grant, the Warriors had a letdown and the Bulldogs rallied for 11 runs in the third inning to win 16 to 7. Burgdorf was the loser. Census takers are following-up on missing census questionnaries by visiting addresses from which householders have not yet mailed theirs back, as well as telephoning most h o u s e h o l d s w h e r e q u e s t i o n n a i r e s w e r e returned inadequately filled out. The manager asks householders to welcome these census takers when they call and to give them full cooperation in supplying t h e r e q u i r e d c e n s u s i n ­ formation. Pianist Stokman At Opera House May 4 Pianist Abraham Stokman will appear at the Woodstock Opera House Sunday, May 4, at 2^30 p.m., the second performance in the annual Spring music series. A former student of Ed­ ward Steuermann at the Juilliard school, Stokman is now a master teacher in Chicago, where he is also known as an accomplished chamber musician. Stokman's performance achievements include recitals at New York's Lincoln center. Boston's Gardner museum, Chicago's Mandel and Orchestra halls, and as a soloist with the Chicago symphony or­ chestra. The ' May 4 program will include sonatas by Mozart and Schubert, and a variety of piano works by Chopin. Reserved seating is available by calling the Woodstock Opera House ticket office Tuesday through Saturday, noon until 5:30 p.m. Student rush tickets will be available 15 minutes before the per­ formance.
