& HKLPINt; PAWS ANIMAL WELFARE ASSOCIATION P.O. Box 205 •Crystal Lake, Illinois 60014 •(815)459.2641 By Mary Nelson All is not lost. Helping Paws is receiving cooperation from Animal Control, investigators of the Department of Agriculture and from Senator Friedlund of Kane county. Cruelty cases... such as the cat burning and cat castration, HP has found, are not of interest to McHenry county officials. HP learned at the town meeting that steps should be taken at once to insure swift action from those officials. HP was told that a crime should be reported at once to the police; if no'action is taken, consult States At torney Ted Floro. In the case of the cat castration, it filled 1 all of the requirements needed for investigation and prosecution. It was reported at once to the police who did nothing. HP mentioned the case at the town meeting and still no one showed interest. HP has since written a letter , and called several times to inquire from States Attorney Florowhat has been done with ° the evidence received by him about the cat burner. He has not found it necessary to respond. It is therefore HP's con clusion that if McHenry county fails, there certainly must be other avenues. Senator Friedlund was horrified by the incidents and talked directly to the >t. of Agriculture. leir investigators are on the case now and. surely something will be done. HP now knows that it is not necessary to rely on the officials in McHenry county. Please keep that in mind when cases come up in the future. Go directly to those who can help...not to those who promise help and give nothing. Call Helping Paws, and Animal Control, who will then go directly to the reliable agencies for im mediate support and action. Isn't it nice to know that someone cares? The adoption fee includes the cost of surgery if done by a vet of HP's choice or a deduction from the cost of the surgery if done by a vet of your choice.
