Ken Ludwig got credit for the final RBI of the inning on a fielder's choice. Fox Hole narrowed the lead to one run in the third as 4 successive batters reached base. John Meyers opened with a single followed by a base on balls to Jeff Meyers. Jim Yaworski and Ron Miller each hit RBI singles and the Sport Stop was up 4- 3. In the fourth Vinnie Freund gave the Fox Hole a 7-4 lead as he slammed a 3- run homer driving in Dick Kazlauski and Don Bentz, Jr. in front of him. Kazlauski had just driven in Myron Bentz after Bentz had led off the inning with a triple. John's Sport Stop rallied in their half of the final inning to knot the score at seven. With two outs both Ken Ludwig and Joe Dehn singled. Rick Wakitsch doubled driving in both runners and scored moments later on Greg Freund's t^o base hit. The Fox Hole's Richie Meyers led off the bottom half of the inning with a single. Myron Bentz singled and Dick Kazlauski was intentionally passed to load the bases with no outs. Don Bentz became the hero with a base hit to give Fox Hole the victory. John's Sport Stop ab r h rbi D. Freund 4 0 1 1 Ludwig 4 11 1 Dehn 4 12 0 Wakitsch 4 11 2 G. Eliminating their six worst holes and using two-thirds of their handicap the following nets were posted. Class A - Liz Nolan with 38, Class B - Barb Leight with 40, Class C - Maddie Holmes with 39 and Class D - Betty Gossell with 41. More in the line of realism the following low nets were posted on the gals' handicap cards. Class A - Lynn Sch midt, 77; Class B - Barb Leight, 72; Class C - Maddy Homes,77; and Class D - Pat MacDonald, 77. Helping Lynn S. in Class A was her fine putting. She rolled in 29 putts for the 18 holes to give her low putts in her class. In Class B Dot Freund exhibited the same skill on the greens by taking only 29 putts. In Class C Georgette Lewis and Ethel Koehler tied for low putts with 35 each. And, in Class D the skilled hands of Betty Wayman kept her putts to 32. Being at the mid-point of Spring a number of birds - and birdies - seem to abound. The one that Virginia Spengel got on no. 8 doesn't count, however, since it really had wings and didn't help the ball to go into the hole. Apologies to ° Mother Nature from Virg. Those that counted back in the club house were, the one Evie Cassellhadon no. 18, the one that Anna Johnson had on no.16 and the three that Joanie Buss had on no. 6, no. 8 and no. 14. Joanie's drive on the par-three eighth hole wa^a foot and a half away from a hole-in-one. A close call. Chipping skills have also finely honed by a (umber of the gals as ridenced by the number of chip^ins reported. Nancy Wilkifas reported one on no. 16, Lynn Schmidt on no. 4, Letty Busscher on no. 14, Betty Wayman on no. 12, Irene Kinneman on no: 3 to hold par and Toots Gersted on no. 13 out of the trap. Those are tough acts to follow: While many of the ladies were playing straight-down- the-middle golf a few were performing more perilous . practices. Dot Christiensen was preparing for Arbor Day by acquainting herself with most of the trees on the course. Marelene Smith must be thinking about the seashore. She earns the title of "Sandy" for this week, having had the dubious distinction of landing in the most traps. The trick shot "broken -club- award", however, goes to Eunice Hatch whose ball caromed off the trees, ricocheted off the bridge railing and landed on the eighth green. She claims that's the hole she was playing. Next week will be the first of a two-week ABCD Calcutta event for the 18- holers while we welcome the Nifty Niners in their first event; a Bingle-Bangle- Bungle. 'Til then. Happy Golfing!
