There are few signs in the sky which will give you any clue to the approach'of a cold front, despite what some may claim. A warm front usually gives ample warning before moving in but a cold front may often give none at all. The first sign of a cold front is usually not far enough in advance of its ac tual arrival to do much good. This clue is a sharp pickup in the wind. This is actually the leading edge of the cold front, moving over the sur face of the earth, and will probably be leading the full- bodied front itself only by hours. Notice the sky. If it is clearing, or has just cleared, and the wind is picking up appreciably, with gusty blasts, a cold front is prob ably not far away. Phone 385-1424 909 N. " According to the AMA, brushing your hair 100 strokes Pub. by Win. Morrow, N.Y.) a day won't , do it any good and may even harm it. If you can, place your sick child in a comfortable room, 68 degrees or above, away from drafts, within easy ear shot. and close to the bath room. t If your child is to be confined for a prolonged length of time, he may enjoy being near a closed, window so he can enjoy the beauties of nature and the sights in the neighborhood. To save steps and vocal cords, let your child beckon you with a bell when he really needs your help or your company. Let me warn you that the bell will toll for you all day Jong, but it beats the echoing strains of " M o m m y , M o m m y , Mommy." In all probability, you will be making at least thirty to forty trips a day upstairs, downstairs, or down the hall way to check on your patient. A thermos bottle of water or other recommended fluid on a bedside table will save many steps. The sick bed can be cov ered with a soft protective covering such as a beach or bath towel in the event that frequent changes are needed. A paper bag or shoebag can be clothespinned to the bed for handy"reach of toys, supplies, or other items your child might want at arm's length while he is getting better. This also helps to keep the bed clutter from accumulating. Never use plastic bags, since infants and small chil dren can suffocate from them. Be sure to have a wastebasket near the bed for used tissue and other waste, a bedpan if needed, and a bowl and tow^l if your child is vomiting. JOHN F.
