SOWERS Mr. and Mrs. Byron Gw Sowers will celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary with an Open House at the Ringwood Methodist church on Saturday, May 17, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Byron Sowers and Anna Lucille Tay were married May 13, 1920, in Paris, 111. They have four children, Mrs. Sherman (Mary) Spencer, Wonder Lake; John Sowers, Warwich, R, I,; Mrs. Eugene (Betty) Garrison, Hebron and Charles T. Sowers, Wonder Lake; also, fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Sowers farmed and lived in the Ringwood arta for thirty years.^ DORIS TOMASELLO AND JOHN PITZEN PLAN FALL WEDDING - Mrs. Sam Tomasello of McHenry announces the engagement of her daughter, Doris A. to John J. Pitzen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Pitzen of McHenry. The future bride is a graduate of McHenry Community high school and the prospective bridegroom graduated from" Marian Central high school. A fall wedding is planned. Install New Officers Xi FCappa Iota chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority installed officers for the 1980-81 year recently at a meeting at the home of Fawn Vail, Round Lake Beach. A prospective member, M r s . R a n d a l l ( S u e ) Amerson, was a guest. Over $300 was raised by the McHenry chapters of Beta Sigma Phi in the recent candy sale. Proceeds from the joint endeavor will be presented to the A.L.S. Inc., Research foundation. Members will be working with the McHenry County Defenders on June 19 with the recycling program in the McHenry ^Market Place. Members and friends are urged to save their r e c y c l a b l e p r o d u c t s a n d bring them to the Market Place at that time. Linda Thietje presented the program "Outdoor- Living" from the Cultural book "The Home We Make". Mrs. Thietje will be the hostess in her home May 15. Nativity Lutheran church, Wonder Lake-family film series, 7 p.m. MAY 17 Beach Gals Flea Market Double Ring Ceremony Artists Exhibit Work At Unites Koss-Panning Annual "Fair Diddley" Audrey Lynn Panning approached the altar of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church to ex­ change^ promises of marriage in a ̂ double ring ceremony with Timothy D. Koss on May 3. The bride is the daughter of Robert A- and Linda L. Panning, 3212 VistaTerrace, McHenry and Dale D. and Lois Koss, 4105 Crestwood drive, McHenry are the parents of the groom. Pastor Roger Schneider officiated at the 6 p.m. solemnization and the church was beautifully decorated with yellow and white flowers. The bride was attired in a lovely lace bodice gown designed with a Queen Anne neckline; pearls and crystals accentuated the lace on the bodice and sleeves; a border of scalloped Peau D'Auge lace trimmed the A line skirt and chapel train, that featured a double flounce of polyester organza. The flounce theme was repeated on the slim net and lace sleeves. A circle, finger-tip veil was attached to a Choutillef lace cap on which a scalloped lettuce rolled edge echoed the treatment with a border of Choutillef lace. Linda A. Alton, McHenry was the maid of honor. The bridesmaid was Julie Koss, M c H e n r y , s i s t e r O f t h e groom; and the bride's sister, Laurie Panning, was a junior bridesmaid. Flower g i r l s w e r e H e a t h e r a n d Chastity Fetter of Ohio. Attendants wore pale yellow crepe-back satin dresses accented with matching lace. The maidi of honor wore a knee length sleeveless dress with a reversible satin and lace loosely tailored jacket. Her skirt hemline formed a V shape in the front and back. The bridesmaid was similarly attired with a traditional straight hemline. The juftior bridesmaid's dress was highlighted with an attached ruffled shawl. The flowergirls' full length dresses were accented with short puff sleeves. Duties of best man were handled by Ryan Sch- walenburg, Emerald Park, McHenry, and the groom­ sman was Tim Kozelsky, also of McHenry. The bride's mother chose a, " pale blue full length gown featuring a crocheted lace . overlay on the sleeveless V neck bodice. The choice of th$groom's mother was a coral full-length gown with long sleeves gathered at the wrist, and a flounce attached at the hemline. A reception was held in the Fireside room of the church -for 125 guests. Following a honeymoon at Rockton, 111. the couple will reside at 1339 Todd Farm drive, Elgin. Both the bride and groom are graduates of McHenry Community high school, class of 1979. The new Mrs. Koss is employed as a hostess in the Chef's Kitchen of Jewel Food Store in Palatine. JUNE 7-8 St. Mary's annual Rum- McHenry artist, Bernice Papiech, is one of over two hundred exhibitors who will display their work at "Fair Diddley", Sunday, May 18. . . S e v e r a l M c H e n r y residents have been selected as exhibitors at the twelfth annual "Fair Diddley" to be held Sunday, May 18, from noon until 6 p.m. on the Woodstock city square. The Fair features the work of over 200 fine artists - and craftsmen. In the fine arts area Bernice Papiech will again show her oil paintings, Karen Petty, Wonder Lake, will show her portraits in oil and watercolors, and Gloria Yeater will exhibit her paintings and drawings. Carol .Holmes will again display her fabric dolls and Wilbert and Isabelle Mauer will show three-dimensional wood pictures. Other McHenry residents exhibiting at the Fair in­ clude Darlene Neuman, handmade holiday crafts, Gayle Hebert, patchwork, Dorothy Pytko, assorted crafts, Joy Gallagher and Emily Shockey, ceramics and Susan Christensen, patchwork quilts. At the Fair there will also be refreshments and con­ tinuous free entertainment from the bandstand. For the children, there will be games, clowns and balloons. A special feature of ihis year's Fair is Paul Sills' "Story Theatre" presented by the Woodstock thespians, and the Windsong puppets plus Freddy Fredricks & the Weco-Wackos doing magic and comedy. These shows will be presented at 1, 2:15 and 3:30 p.m. at the Woodstock Opera house. "Fair Diddley" is spon­ sored by the Mental Health R e s o u r c e l e a g u e f o r McHenry county. There is no admission to the Fair. Set Fund Raising Program The United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist church of McHenry, will hold a "Shop and Share" fund-raising program on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, May 26, 27 and 28. jpping supermarket on any of these days, five percent of the total purchase, excluding tax, will be donated by the store to the United Methodist Women. The money generated by this "Shop and Share" program will be for the benefit of the church Building fund. Anyone interested in helping United Methodfst Women by shopping at the designated store on these dates-will need a "Shop and Share Identification Card" w h i c h c a n b e s e c u r e d b y . calling the church office on Main street, McHenry; Mrs. Donald L. (Veretta) Gerstad or from any U.M.W. member. This card must be turned in at the check-out counter after shopping. It is hoped to raise a substantial amount of money for the church Building fund with t|iis "Shop and Share" program, and everyone's cooperation will be very much appreciated. Revise Meeting Schedule A meeting of the Senior Citizens Executive Board was held recently and the summer schedule of the regular meetings was discussed. They will be held at West campus cafeteria, 1:30 p.m."* the second and fourth Monday of the month starting June 9. The fall schedule will resume on August 25 at which time the meetings will be held at 7:30 p.m. There will be no meeting May 26 due to the ob­ servance of Memorial day. At the next regular meeting, May 12, there will be a slide presentation on Jamaica. Among the coming events discussed is the bowling banquet to be held at the McHenry Moose lodge May 14 at 6:30 p.m. All senior c i t i z e h s a r e i n v i t e d , i n ­ cluding those who do not bowl. There will be a tour of the McHenry county parks May 16 and the bus will leave the McHenry Savings & Loan parking lot at 9 a.m. Lun­ cheon will be served at the Cloven H&of, Marengo. Sponsor Cosmetic Demonstration May 14 A cosmetic demonstration featuring Dianne Velde will be presented for the May 14 luncheon of the McHenry County Christian Women's club at the Lakeside center in Crystal Lake. Inspirational speaker will be Tony Danhelka of St. C h a r l e s . O r i g i n a l l y f r o m Chicago, Danhelka has served in the military and holds degrees from Trinity college and Garrett- Evangelical seminary. His interest in the out of doors is evident in his present position as camp director in St. Charles. This luncheon will be held from noon until 2 o'clock. All interested ladies are invited to attend. PTO Sponsor Fun Fair The Johnsburg PTO will sponsor its annual Fun Fair at James C. Bush school on Saturday, May 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be twelve in­ door games and some will be geared to the older children.
