The course was a 6.2 mile route covering the country sights of Bull Valley, Curran and Draper roads and then finishing up through Whispering Oaks. The McHenry Jaycees would like to mention all the runners and especially the McHenry Rescue squad and city police who were on hand at many points along the run to moniter the runners and traffic conditions. The Jaycees would also like to express their appreciation to John Bolton and Nancy Glossen who worked so hard designing and printing T- shirts for all the runners. Next to Eby Brown DAILY 9:30-8, SAT 9 6 High winds and hot hittinf by Round Lake combined t<< defeat Johnsburg 21-7 in girls' softball Tuesday night. The lady Skyhawks still struggling at the plate managed only five hits while the Round Lake ladies pounded out 12 singles, 3 doubles, 1 triple and 2 homeruns. High winds made pitching difficult as both pitchers combined to allow 20 walks. Sophomore Sue Dehn and senior Debbie Herdrich led the offense for the Skyhawks by driving in two runs apiece with timely hitting. John sburg scored 5 runs in the first inning on three hits, five walks and one error. This was to be their only lead of the game. Maness and Anderson led Round Lake with 3 hits apiece. Johnsburg's record dropped to 3-6, losing their last four games by the combined score of 55-14 collecting 13 singles and 1 triple in that time. Johnsburg travels to Crystal Lake on Friday and host Harvard next Tuesday in preparation for regional action. EARL WALSH' So 1 Hear SPORTS EDITOR. second base. Sue, who was 1 for 2, failed to add this ran for Johnsburg as the catcher applied the tag. The loss sent Johnsburg's overall record to 3 and 6. Their conference record b a bit better at 3 and 4. --. '-- ----' •• - ^-- STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Response to my choice of All-Star baseball teams is slow, but John Looze mailed the following note: "Dear Earl, "My esteemed associate wants to know why you did not name the greatest shortstop of all time for the White Sox, Lou Kapling?" "Regards, "John" The name slips my memory. However, I will search the record books for Kapling s accomplishments. He must have been a great one. Our friend Mona sent the following to us a few years back. Can't remember if I ever printed it. The world, including my wife, knows I love waitresses so here goes: DEFINITION OF A WAITRESS A waitress is a woman made up of the usual chemical compounds or dained by nature. But she must have a personality and many virtues that the average woman does not possess. She must have the diplomacy, of a Winston Churchill. The social grace of an Emily Post. The speed of a Banshee jet The smile of a Greek goddess The patience of Job The memory of an elephant -T^ie thick skin of a rhinoc^ras Tre strength of an Atlas The staying power of a mother-in-law The condition of a profess ional footbal l lineman The grooming of a duchess And the speaking voice of a debutant. And, last but not least, she must have a love of humanity. For humans show their worst side when they are hungry. When she is gracious to her guests as well as to her associates, she has mastered the art of serving the public. How would I know that May 13th is Norwegian Day if Norman Bjornson, pharmacist at Bolger's hadn't told me? Never a doubt! The Sox are back. They may have lost the big brawl to the Milwaukee Brewers, but they won the ball game. Then came a 2-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals in which the much maligned defense of the White Sox played magnificently. You just can't keep a great team down.
