McHenry Area 12-Inch Softball Parks And Recreation Youth Soccer Program Doherty's Leads Parade McHenry Twelve Inch ended its.first week of play with six games having been played. A total of 18 homeruns,. 8 triples, 35 doubles and 195 hits were made altogether by the ball clubs, something the league, has come to be known for after 12 seasons. Doherty's was the biggest winner with a 29-3 romp over Jewel Park. Doherty's had 31 hits with 17 extra base hits including 6 homeruns! Three batters led the parade, each going 5 for 5: Mike Rogers, John DeCiccio and Rick Wiegman. Rogers included a pair of doubles and 4 RBI's while Wiegman slammed 2 homeruns, a pair of! doubles and added 6 RBI's. Matt Oik had a pair of doubles, a triple, a homerun and 3 RBI's. Irish DeCiccio doubled and slammed a pair of homeruns over the fence good for 5 RBI's. John Burke homered, singled twice and scored 3 ryps. Mike Weber slammed a double and triple while Mike Zizik included a homerun in going 2 for 2 with 3 RBI's. The light poles are up at Petersen park and hopefully by next week all league games will be played at the new Softball diamond. This program is an in structional prograh that will teach children the rules and basic skills of the \world's most popular game. Practice sessions will be scheduled at the following locations in McHenry : . Petersen Park, Parkland Junior high, McHenry Junior high and West Campus high school. Practice sessions will bd held mornings twice a week" at each location. Sessions will be divided in age groups of 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 years of age. Boys and girls will play together. Swim Lesgons For Area Residents To Start On June 2 To Illinois Bloomington, 111'.--Judson, a name that has enriched both high school and collegiate basketball history in Illinois, is going to go on the' basketball scrolls at Illinois Wesley an university. Gary Judson, 6 foot 2 inch guard from Zion, has decided to attend IWU, Titan coach Dennis Bridges said today. Judson averaged 15.2 points and 5 rebounds the past season for a Zion Benton team that won 23 games and lost three, bowing in the first round of the sectional tournament. The coach of that team was Gary's father, Phil, who teamed with his brother, Paul, to help Hebron's 1951- 52 team become the only district tournament survivor to win the state cham pionship. Both went on to play for outstanding teams at the University of Illinois, where Gary's brother, Rob, recently completed his collegiate career. Kofler, Moulis Qualify For State Track Finals Johnsburg high school sophomore Cheri Kofler and junior Sue Moulis qualified to compete in the state finals after outstanding performances in the District track meet last week. Kofler placed first in the long jump, and Moulis took second place in the 800 meter run. Johnsburg's girls track team finished seventh in the 24-school District com petition. The two Skyhawk qualifiers will participate in the State track meet this weekend. This T-Ball program for boys and girls uses a batting- tee as an instruction tool instead of players at tempting to hit a pitched ball. Rules of baseball and other fundamentals will be taught.
