L; (with long time subscribers) MR. AND MRS. FRED BIENAPFL Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bienapfl literally met over the back fence and later married. Fred was fa the process of building the house on Qreen street where 'they presently reside. Agnes lived with her parents -in the house which later became the McHenry Public library. Agnes was born in 1893 and was a member of one of the first girls' basketball teams in McHenry. She recalled that there was only oAe boy, Neil Doherty, in the graduating class of 1913. She reminisced about the days when there were. ; no sidewalks in McHenry and she used to walk with Jack Walsh as he went from light pole to light pole, lighting the lights. Fred Bienapfl came to McHenry from Minnesota in 1926 and worked as a pile driver on the "old bridge." "I knew every stick of piling that went underneath the old bridge," he said. i Later, he "graduated" from' pile driving to become a carpenter. He still finds time to work with his hands, making and repairing spinning wheels. The McHenry Plaindealer has been in the Bienapfl family since they were married and before that it was in Agnes' family. She said the paper was in her family ever since she could remember, although it had some competition from the "Abendpost" a German language paper that her father read.
