The money for the scholarship will come out of the Student Council treasury each year and is to be raised by the various activities and functions which the Council sponsors. The Girls Athletic association of McHenry high school announced a special memorial in honor of their former president, Mary Jane Gerasch. The board voted to establish a per­ manent annual gift fund to be decided each year by the G.A.A. for worthwhile and charitable purposes decided by the group. The new petit jury in­ cludes Delia K. Miller, Lena Hettermann and Joseph Adams. The fighting Warriors of McHenry capped their most successful season on record with a 5-1 victory over the Tigers of Crystal Lake. The win gave the orange and black an 18-3 record for the season. The weed Queen Anne's Lace -- actually the tiny flowers atop the wild carrot -- is also called "devil's plague" because it can crowd useful grasses from fields and pastures. The seniors, in caps and gowns, marched to their seats while Miss Lois Esch played the march. The address of the evening was delivered by Rev. Bonhan of Chicago, pastor of the M.E. church, and was an in­ structive one for the students, full of good advice and counsel for 4he young people. The Claire Beauty Shoppe, formerly located on Main street, West McHenry, has moved to new quarters on Green street and will be ready to open for business there May 31. They came, they saw, but conquer they did not. Hubert (Huppy) P. Schoewer saw to that when the boys, .calling themselves the Elgin All- Stars, popped open the baseball season on the McHenry d i amond . Schoewer, hurling for the MACS, gave up one hit, a Texas leaguer over third to open the second inning, and shut out the touted Elginltes in one of the finest mound exhibitions turned in, in this vicinity in some time. The final score was 6-0. Three McHenry firemen and two employees of the McHenry Dairy were seriously burned when fire destroyed part of the plant, located about two miles north of this city. One fireman, Floyd Covalt, Jr., and the two workmen, Kirk Selby and Howard Petty, were taken to the hospital for treatment for burns. The other two firemen, Ted Miller and Herman Kreutzer, suffered severe burns &bout the face, but r ece ived emergency treatment here. Jimmy Downs, two-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Downs of McHenry, didn't have his penny bank handy, so he put the coins in his mouth. His cries later told his parents that the money had been "deposited" in the wrong bank. Work has already started on a much needed road improvement being the two- mile stretch extending east from the present blacktop to connect with the Lake county pavement, around the south end of Pistakee Bay. This road has been the subject for discussion among residents in the Bay region for several years. TWENTY-FIVE YEARSAGO (Taken from the files of May 26, 1955) The Student Council of the TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of May 29, 1970) Base pay for teachers in District 15 was established. A $7,400 figure was set for beginning teachers with a teacher's degree, $7,900' for a Master's degree and a top of $12,300 for Master's degree plus sixteen hours. Richard Looze, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Looze, was one of eleven students who were named as Milton college representatives in the 1970-71 publication of "Who ' s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities".
