Accreditation Renewal For Johnsburg School Principal Bill Hayes of Johnsburg high school has announced that the school's accreditation has been extended through the 1979-80 school year following the review and aproval of its annual report at the North Central association's annual meeting. Accreditation is for one year at a time and must be renewed annually. "Once every seven years each NCA school must un­ dergo a comprehensive self- study followed by an NCA evaluation team review," Principal Hayes explained. "Because Johnsburg high school is a new school, it has not been previously evaluated. In (he interim years, a school is accredited on the basis of its report on conditions existing . in the school and on such sup­ plementary information as the Commission on Schools requests. Our report for 1979- 80 assures us of ongoing NCA membership and ac­ creditation. This continued accreditation means that the conditions for effective education exist in the school." The North Central association is the largest of the country's regional ac­ crediting agencies. It is a voluntary league of over 4,700 schools and 850 colleges and universities'^] 19 states, plus the Defragment of Defense Dependent Schools throughout the world. A total of 627 schools are accredited in Illinois. The association works with individual schools to improve the quality of education through a continuous process of evaluation and ac­ creditation. Dr. John S. Kemp, NCA state director at the University of • Illinois, congratulated Johnsburg high school on its continued accreditation for 1979-80. He added, "The school has been a member of the North Central association since 1978 and in all those years it has been fully accredited. This should be a matter of satisfaction to the students and the parents of the school, since accreditation gives assurance that the school meets those minimal yet rigorous preconditions for e f f e c t i v e e d u c a t i o n established by the association. If you have a child in­ terested, it would be ap­ preciated it you could call the Religion Center at 653- 2581. WEEKEND ACTIVITIES The Memorial weekend had something in store for everyone. The Yacht club started off the sailing season Saturday, May 24, with their first race. There were also races on Sunday and Mon­ day. Even if you are not a sailing enthusiast, the beautiful scene that the boats create on the lake is a pleasure to see. The American Legion organized a wonderful parade on Monday, May 26. It was one of the best we have had in years because of the cooperation of all the groups who participated and the large crowd who lined the parade route. Even some long time residents who have moved away, were back to see members of their families in, the parade. It was fun seeing their faces in the crowd again. After the parade, children were delighted with the game booths and rides at the Legion Fun Fair. It gave the adults another chance to visit with friends. The Wonder Lake Boys Baseball league opened their season Monday night with George Street throwing the first balls. The Indians were victorious over the White Sox and the Yankees defeated the Tigers. GARDEN CLUB The Wonder Lake Garden, club had its April meeting at Ostend Acres with Mrs. B.J. Alderson as hostess. Alice and LethafClark were our guest sneakers, who with beautifujrslides, provided us with a leal insight to their five acre nature center with 97 different varieties of wild flowers. It was an out­ standing program! May was p "Double Hit­ ter" with Mrs. Doris Lockerbie welcoming members to her home to join in making candy tray favors for Valley-Hi women residents for Mother's day, a project which is en­ thusiastically enjoyed by all. Also in May, was our regular meeting at the home of Louise Nawn, with in­ stallation of officers in a lovely candlelight ceremony conducted by Mrs. Ruth Kinzie, installing officer, with beautiful corsages presented to each officer, president, Mrs. B.J. Alderson; recording secretary, Mrs. Roberta Fiali; and, corresponding secretary, Ms. Louise Nawn. $ We all hope ye caft per­ forin otorclub duties as well as the officers who preceded us, who gave so much of their time and dedication. Jim Kinzie, chairman of the Fireworks committee, says that like everything else, the price of fireworks has increased. Everyone is asked to be generous so that the show can be a super one.
