PAGE 8 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18,1980 ' i « : Sunnyside Area Betty Messer 344 2494 Church To Benefit From Sweet Adelines Concert In And Around The Village Residents of the village will note that the much needed repairs on our roads are being taken care of and repair work should be just about completed. Winter always does a certain amount of damage to our roads but repairs have to wait for good weather and the ground to be completely thawed. Hay fever sufferers will be happy to see that the village is cutting weeds on all the village property. This is in accordance with our village ordinance. The county also has a noxious weed ordinance. Villagers must also keep their yards cut and free of weeds or be subject to a fine. The progress of the Village Municipal building is moving right along. The foundation was put in this past week and we should soon see the actual building start to go up. A few complaints have come into the clerk's office about the lack of mosquito abatement this summer. Since there was no response form villagers earlier this year as to how much good the spraying does, the village Board of Trustees opted not to spray this summer. CONDOLENCES We wish to extend our condolences to Hal Kit terman of Kitterman's Sunnyside Standard upon the loss of his mother, Mrs. Lou Kitterman of Fox Lake Mrs. Kitterman passed away June 7 in the McHenry hospital. "Happy Birthday" Nick. • * Not many people think that the dictionary is a good book to study. The McHenry chapter, Sweet Adelines, will perform a benefit concert at the First United Methodist church, located at Center and Main streets in McHenry, at 8 p.m. Saturday evening, JUne 21. Featured quartet will be the Valley Four-Gers, members of the Society for the Preservation and En couragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. Members of the Valley Four- Gers are Gene Anthony, tenor; Walt Martin, lead; Carl Missele, baritone; and Don Lowe, bass. They are well-known in the Elgin area and have won many awards for their performances. A second men's quartet will be featured, who are students at McHenry high school. They call themselves the Foremen, and members are Derek Gilbert, tenor; Greg Boyd, lead; Doug Maris, baritone, and Mark Schmaling, bass. The Foremen have performed for the Senior Citizens club and will be singing at a Crystal Lake restaurant June 22. They also plan to audition for the County fair Talent contest. Greg and Derek are members of the Elgin chapter of the SPEBSQSA. The Sweet Adelines have been practicing at the church hall for several years, and, according to Mary Jane Boelens, president, "this benefit is our way of showing ap preciation to the First United Methodist church for their assistance." All proceeds of this concert will be turned over to the church building program. William Toalson, music director of East campus high school, and director of the McHenry city band, will be the master of ceremonies for the program. The Sweet Adelines will be under the direction of Mrs. Pat Gat-" tone, and assistant directors, Mary Jane Boelens and Dottie Kaufmann. Tickets are available at the church office.
