College Honors Susan Herrmann Is Parkland Graduate Kelly Kalk On University Honor Listings Seven hundred sixty-five students from Parkland college were candidates for graduation at com mencement exercises held recently at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Illinois campus. Among them was Susan K. Herrmann of McHenry., One hundred forty-one students received cer tificates and six hundred twenty-four students received Associate in Science, Associate in Arts, Associate in Applied Science, and Associate in General Studies degrees. Earns Second Degree Robert K. Hollander, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack N. Hollander, 1010 N. Hiver road, McHenry, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Laboratory Techniques from the College of Technical Careers at Southern Illinois university at Carbondale. He received -an Associate in Art degree in DentalTechnology Aug. 4 1979. .. Chancellor Kenneth Shaw conferred degrees on 4,700 candidates at the two commencement excercises held at the University arena in May. During the ceremonies, honorary degrees were given to Donald McHenry, United States ambassador to the United Nations, and to Frank Stanton, former chairman of the American Red Cross. Degrees For Eight In Area At Carbondale Spring commencement exercises were conducted recently at Southern Illinois university-Carbondale for a class of 4,700 graduates. Ceremonies in the SIUC Arena included honorary degree awards to Donald F. McHenry, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and Frank Stanton, former president of the Columbia Broadcasting System. Kelly Jjayne Kalk, 18-yeai old daughter of Jerry and Jayne Kalk, formerly of McHenry, earned mention on the Dean's list and also "Ifte President's list for outstanding grades and •activities at the New Mexico State university, Las Cruces, New Mexico. She has completed her freshman year. Kelly is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dean of McHenry. HONOR LISTING Sean W. Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. William E.G. Thomas, 1642 North Riverside drive, McHenry, has been named to the Dean's list at Lake Forest college for the 1979-80 academic year. To qualify for the honor, students must earn at least four "A" grades during the year, and no grade lower than a "B". The list includes ap proximately one-tenth of the student body. ON DEAN'S LIST Susan Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson, 3709 W. High, McHenry, and a 1976 graduate of McHenry high school, was among 205 University of Dubuque undergraduates named to the 1980 spring semester Dean's list at UD. The Dean's list was announced by Joseph Stewart, academic dean of the UD College of Liberal Arts. To qualify for the academic honor roll, students must earn a grade point average of 3.2 or higher, based on a 4.0 scale, for the semester. Phi Alpha Sigma recognizes excellence of scholarship among North C e n t r a l f r e s h m e n . Eligibility is based upon a 3.5 cumulative average for the first two terms of the fresh man year James Murphy, Master of Science-Education degrees at Southern Illinois university, Edwardsville. CARSON & BARNES CIRCUS ACT The ingredients of a good circus includes clowns, elephants and pretty girls. They are present in big numbers with the world's largest tented show, the great Carson & Barnes 5- ring Wild Animal circus. There are also wild animals, acrobats, aerialists and many feature acts ac companied by a big brassy circus band. Parts of the huge show were presented in televised highlights during the Winter, The Veterans Ad ministration will celebrate its 50th anniversary in July 1980. Prior to 1930, responsibility for federal veterans' programs was shared by several federal agencies.
