*wf CAROL LEIGHTY Miss Carol Leighty, talented daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Leighty of 3703 W. Young street, McHenry, has been honored with renewal of a scholarship to study voice at the Hochschule Iter Musik in Germany. Renewal after the first year is un­ common and therefore regarded as a distinct honor. Following 12 months of intensive study under Ernest Haeflinger, her progress was reviewed at Bonn and the scholarship awarded. Miss Leighty studies abroad as a Fulbright scholar, in a program of the Institute of International Education, ' which is governed by the United Nations. Ippolito, of 4515 Ramble road, McHenry, failed to yield the right-of-way to the white auto last Thursday morning at the intersection of Chapel Hill and Bay roads. The driver of the auto, Dolores E. Hertel, of 1008 Chapel Hill road, McHenry, was taken to McHenry hospital by the Johnsburg Rescue squad. She was treated and released. Ippolito was ticketed for failure to yield the right-of-way from a stop or intersection. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Start Summer Theater Series The woods and hills where Abraham Lincoln spent his early manhood will ring with the stirring speeches, songs, and stories of the American past again this summer as The Great American People show presents its fifth season of historical drama in New Salem State park, Petersburg. The season will open on June .22 witfy the company's award-winning play "Your Obedient Ser­ vant, A. Lincoln," followed by the premiere of a new play, "Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight" on June 25. Both plays will run through Aug. 23. The company performs on a spectacular, multi-leveled stage in the Kelso Hollow theatre at the edge of . the reconstructed New Salem village. The stage was built in 1976 for the production of "Your Obedient Servant, A. Lincoln," in celebration of the national Bicentennial. The play, written by John Ahart and the company, was received enthusiastically by historians, theatre critics, and playgoers as a uniquely authentic and moving ac­ count of Lincoln's life.
