Dear Friend Earl, "Thought I'd better sound off before you give us your famous remark about not hearing from the Cub fans while their team is down. The way I see it, the Cubs are going to play their championship ball after the "All Star Break" instead of before it this year. You better tip your "Sox" off if you want that All-Chicgo World Series. "Dear Jerry, "It is a shock to hear from a Cub fan when their team is folding. However, I note your letter is dated the same day as the much-heralded clubhouse meeting that turned the team around. In sort of an "All In The Family" turn of events, Judy Walsh Smith met her uncle, Jim Walsh of Woodstock, who sent the following for another Walsh - - me. Jim read a contributed paragraph in this corner a couple of weeks ago that showed real confusion so sent the following. The author is a former Woodstock native, now a banker in Knox, Indiana. Here's how he sizes up the situation: Met Leo Heimer, one of the McHenry natives. He read about me liking eggs for breakfast and had a little story to tell. Leo bought a carton of eggs recently and couldn't believe his eyes when he cracked them open -- 11 out of 12 had double yolks. That's a new one in these days when production is down. And -- about that cholesterol scare. He heard a doctor tell the radio audience that a couple of nips a day out of the bottle will help control the cholesterol. I can tell you definitely that there is a speeding up of the rate at which business has been easing off - in other words there is a noticeable upturn in the slow-down • and I would like to clarify for'you the cautious terminology of some economists by ex plaining that this upturn in the downturn is not as good as a slowdown in the downturn, but it is a good deal better than an upturn in the downturn or a deepening of the downturn, as it does suggest that the climate is about right for an ad justment of this period of readjustment. At any rate, we expect a pick-up some time before the^end of the year if we do not have a decline. Interest rates are expected to fluctuate within normal parameters barring any developments not foreseen at this time but which, based on historical patterns, normally occur. PONYTAIL DIVISION C.R.V.
