BRAND NEW 1980 FORD 12" All Stars ™wg To Play Twice The McHenry 12-Inch league is ready for its annual All-Star contest Both Eastern and Western divisions have picked rosters to compete against each other in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 29 at Petersen park. Foxhole Tap placed 7 ball players from their undefeated team on the Eastern division's first team. Two more were added a£ alternates to give the Foxhole nine players on the All-Star squad. Doherty's was well represented in the Western division as they placed six on the first team and one more on the second team giving them a total of seven All-Stars. Tim Whitman led the Eastern Division balloting for pitcher. The King's Row batting leader will bring a .611 average to his first All-Star game. the Eastern's first team catching will be shared by Vinnie Freund of Foxhole and Pete Blackburn of Second Federal Savings. Freund a .600 batter, currently leads, the league in homeruns with five and has 15 RBI's and 14 runs scored. Blackburn is batting .650 and is leading his team in every offensive category. Don Bentz of Foxhole will be at first base. Bentz who added 2 homeruns in Monday's game is tied for the league's homerun leadership with Freund, Tom Spasojevich and Irish DeCiccio. Bentz is batting .583 with 13 runs and 18 RBI's on the year. Twig Miller, another Foxhole ballplayer, will be at second base. Miller, who has been on Twelve Inch All-Star teams six years in a row, carries a .600 batting average. Ron Miller, the other half of the 'dynamic duo' for Foxhole, tied for the shortstop position with Bill Lomas of Second Federal Savings. Miller carries a .667 average while Lomas is betting .522. Myron Bentz gets the starting nod at third base. Bentz had a rocket arm to go along with his power hitting ability and .615 average. FRONT (SOUTH RTE. 31) McHENRY, IL Legion Attack The American Legion hardballers are now 4-0 in the American Legion con ference after defeating Richmond on Monday, 4-1. McHenry pushed out 11 hits to manage their four runs, but pitcher Dave Colberg stayed consistent and raised his season record to 3-0. Besides tossing a harmless eight-hit, five strike opt game, Colberg was also the hitting star for McHenry. He - went three for three with a single and two doubles and recorded one RBI to pace the offensive attack. Colberg is not a big strike out or power pitcher, but he has proved to be consistent by working out of some tough jams and maintaining a no-loss record. Everyone in the McHenry lineup ended up with at least one hit except for third baseman Phil Brenner. The feisty Brenner came up with two tremendous plays at Back field In Motion Chicago Bear running beck, Robin Earl chips onto the number two green atChapel Hill last Sunday in the Prime Minister golf outing that drew 110 entrants. The big No. 39 hit a drive from the number ope tee that fought it's way into the wind for a distance of nearly three football fields. That drive was good for first place in the driving competition. Joel Wakitsch Rich Meyers, Foxhole right centerfielder, received the highest number of votes for outfielders. Meyers is a .727 hitter with 18 RBI's and four homeruns. Don Prazak of Wayne's was voted to his fourth All-Star squad. The husky center fielder is currently batting .636 with 14 RBI's and seven extra base hits. Jim Yaworski of Foxhole, a .643 hitter, with 14 runs sewed and 12 RBI's, will be in left field. Joe Dehn, a fifth time selection from John's Sport Stop-Old Bridge, will be in the fourth outfield position. Dehn is batting .667 with 18 hits and 13 runs scored in sue games. The Western division picked Irish DeCiccio as their first team pitcher. DeCiccio pitches for the division leader and shows a hefty .688 average with 12 runs scored, 19 RBI's and five homeruns. Wayne Roewer, DeCiccio's battery mate during the regular season, will be starting catcher. Roewer, a unanimous choice, is batting .545 with 12 RBI's and 2 homeruns. At first base will be the Rusty Nail's Gary Schmitt, who marks his sixth year in All-Star competition. Schmitt is batting .450 in seven games. Harry May led the votegetters at second bc^se. May, Raymond's Bowl team leader, will be playing on his first All- Star team. Matt Oik from Doherty's led all candidates on the ballot for shortstop. Oik is batting .615 with seven extra base hits including 4 homeruns. John DeCiccio nailed down the third base position. DeCiccio boasts a .619 average with 13 runs scored after six games. Mike Rogers was a unanimous first team selection for the outfield. The Doherty's All-Star has 20 hits, 17 runs sewed with a league leading .741 batting average. Tom Spasojevich from Raymond's Bowl was the second bestvotegetter. Spaz is a .667 hitter with 10 runs, 15 RBI's and five homeruns. John Burke of Doherty's, a .556 hitter along with Larry Jones of Rusty Nail at .476, round out the first team. Burke will play in his first All-Star competition while Jones makes it for the third time. Business Men Of McHeniy Still Tops The McHenry Business Men of the Woodstock 12 Inch Slow Pitch league are in sole possession of first place following two victories last week. On Wednesday, June 18, at Woodstock high school, McHenry routed Ideal Oil by the score of 17-6. Then on Sunday, McHenry edged the 12 inchers 16-15. In the win over Ideal Oil, McHenry slammed out 23 hits with everyone getting at least one hit. McHenry scored seven runs in the top of the first and was never headed the rest of the way. Jim Boelens, Jim Hef- felfinger and Randy Rodiek each had three hits and two doubles to lead McHenry. Dick DeVries was the winning pitcher, giving up just 11 hits and walking four. Dave Malo and Tom LeFontaine each had two hits in a losing cause for Ideal Oil. Sunday'^game with the 12 Inchers saw Randy Rodiek slice a single to right with the bases loaded to give McHenry a hard fought 16-15 win. The hit came in the bottom of the seventh with Steve Schaeffer scoring the winning run. McHenry, at one time led the 12 Inchers 12-4, the 12 Inchers scored seven in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to take a 13-12 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, McHenry scored three times but the 12 Inchers again tied it up before the seventh inning heroics. Ai?iie Stolte led McHenry with a perfect four for four at the plate, including three runs scored and three RBI's. Jim Boelens was four for five as leadoff man and John Sytsma was three for, four with three runs scored/ a triple and three RBI's. Mike Fultz relieved in the fifth inning and picked up his second victory. Leading the 12 Inchers was Jim Hanson who was three for four and Steve Lacy with four for four. Olc Bridge's bats came to lifers they scored 15 more runs and defeated Four Winds 20-5. Joyce Zoiss and Alic Hoff man, along with playing well defensively, each had a big night hitting. Alice was five for five and had three doubles and two singles, and Joyce had a single and a triple.
