SIU rarely finishes out of the nation's top ten so Bellich knows the road to cracking the college pitching rotation is going to be tough. Although he hasn't faired too well this summer because of lack of hitting from his teammates, Bellich isn't too woried about his summer record as long as he does well. "I consider this summer as a time to get in good shape for fall tryouts at SIU," the soft-spoken Bellich remarked. He has lost two close ball games so far this summer, but he hasn't lost his cool because he knows he is improving. His 1-2 record is not indicative of his performance. For instance, against Genoa he set a personal strike out record of 12 but lost the game 2-0. Later he fanned 15 against Lake-in-the-Hills to set a new marie for himself. Eight times this summer he has struck out the side and his walk-to-strikeout ratio is ten to one. Bellich, son of Daniel and Millie Bellich of McHenry, relies mainly on his fastball to beat the opponent and goes to his curveball only about 10-15 percent of the time.
