David Cain, Ltd., McHenry, for auditing services^ uring the present year / at a recent meeting. The board also approved a number of personnel changes including staff hirings for the one- month summer school program under federal Title I funds. The Cain firm, with a fee range of $1,800 to $2,200, was ffte low bidder in a field of four who responded to district advertisements for < an auditing firm. The board had decided to change auditors for the coming year as a matter of> policy although the current firm has been serving satisfac torily for a number of years. Other firms' bids ranged from $2,300 to $4,300. As expected, prices for cafeteria supplies rose during the past year as in dicated by quotations from bidders. In addition, all bids contained escalator clauses to protect suppliers against further increase of costs during the' coming year. Cary Dairy of Cary won the milk bid with a price $.1142 per half pint. This increased from $ .1029 last year. The board discussed briefly ' eliminating ice cream supplies, but then accepted the bid of Shoeps's Ice Cream, Madison, Wis., with a basic bid of $1.25 per dozen for Dixie Cups. Their bid last year was $ .90. Other ice cream products in the bid showed a similar increase. Board members, in t con tinuing the ice cream feature, rationalized that nutritionists acknowledge that ice cream is better than candy. Colonial Baking Co. of, Rockford will furnish bread this year at $ .55 per loaf. Last year Kappus Bread Co. of Kenosha was the supplier at .45 per loaf. Burgess, Anderson and Tate, Inc. of Zion won the bid for duplicator and mimeograph papef with a basic proposal of $22.10 for 8Vfe x U white per case of 10 reams. This had increased from $19.20 per case bid by the same company last year. The board backed the stand taken by Dr. Richard Farmer, district superin tendent, regarding a request by an area church to* use school buildings for meetings until the congregation could erect a building. The church in question is moving its location from Island Lake to McHenry because much of the congregation is located in the McHenrJrcommunity. Dr. Farmer indicated that previous requests by other churches had been denied except when use was requested for short periods of time when a local church couldn't use its own building for emergency reasons. He believed that the principal of not entangling religion and government applied in this situation. >ver tuat District 156 The board of High School District 156 acted on a num ber of fiscal items at a re cent meeting and approved several staffing recom mendations including an additional coaching position for 1900-81. Because tax bills are being issued by the county later than usual, the board okayed the isstjance of tax anticipation warrants up to $250,000 in each of the educational and building maintenance funds. This action will insure the district having adequate money for current pperftting expenses until taxes are distributed sometime after the Sept. 3 payment deadline. The board approved the purchase of new seating for the East campus auditorium and new tables and chairs for the cafeteria at a cost of $40,042.95. VThe successful bidder was Carroll Seating Co. of Chicago. Supt. Robert Swartzloff described the furniture as medium grade, comfortable with most quality for the dollar, and "kid proof". He added that the items will be paidJbr with the interest earneo^on the investment of the recent Life-Safety bond sales proceeds. Also approved were bids for custodial supplies and equipment from nine dif ferent companies to talling $14,717. Another bid was awarded for athletic medical supplies totalling $1,712.60 to the firms Hayden company and School Health Supplies. In addition, the board approved bids for milk, bread and ice cream products for their cafeterias which were similar to the proposals accepted by District JU> described in an earlier story J Successful bidders were Cary Dairy, Rockford .Colonial Baking Co., and£choep's Ice Cream The board approved the addition of one assistant girls' tennis coach for the 1960-81 school year. The board was advised that other coaching positions might be r e c o m m e n d e d l a t e r depending on the condition of the budget, but this position was needed at the beginning of the school year to ac commodate^ the girls in terested in tennis. Ex perience during the current year showed that a number of participants dropped out because they were not receiving adequate coaching attention. Staffing changes approved included the termination of Stephen Sarabia as West campus custodian and Howard Pliner East campus custodian, both full time positions. However, Pliner was rehired as part time clistodian at East, the change at his own request. Employed also were Katheryn Shaw as half time English instructor at West; Robert Stoltman, custodian at West; George Mrachek, custodian at East; Sharon Kottke and Carole Hey as bus drivers.
