She woy$d have frozen some of their * assets and canned the rest, Farm bureau is helping improve a major exhibit in the City of Chicago; the exhibit is aimed at helping city families learn more about farm animals, farm life and farm men and women. The exhibit is the "Farm in the Zoo" at Lincoln park where 4 million visitors a year enjoy the fine park and the zoo. The Milk foundation maintains a good dairy exhibit with several breeds of dairy cows kept at the Dairy barn milked for the public enlightenment twice a day. Four barns comprise the Farm in the Zoo, and Farm bureau has begun lo improve the presentation with the preparation of material as teacher guides. Dennis Vercler of the IAA In formation staff talked lo ihe McHenry County Farm Bur eau board members, an informational presenlation to help farmers learn what is planned by the IAA and the seven county Farm Bureaus in4ne Northeastern Illinois Consumer Information committee. Vercler showed slides lo illustrate the cleanliness, the roominess and the potential of the Farm in the Zoo. They obtained suggested im provements from parents who have taken children to the zoo and the leachers who make annual pilgrimmages lo the zoo. The teacher guide book will be sent to 600 Chicago area schools to help leachers prepares the children on what lo expect during the farm tour. The survey showed the need for a teacher's resource guide. It also showed the wooden fences that should be replaced-they block the view of children. Third, signs with information about ihe livestock should be lower and with much larger type- fewer words, too. Cook County Farm bureau has agreed to replace ihe fencing with wire fence suilable for an exhibit at a cost of $12,000. The estimated $24,000 ex penditure by the IAA and the seven County Farm Bureaus will go for signs, teacher guides and other im provements. RAKE lit THE SAVINGS .
