I -\ Organize Youth Orchestra McHenry county will soon have its own youth or­ chestra. With the support of the District 47 ad­ ministration and music department, . interested parents have begun to organize to make this dream become a reality. Thomas Wilson of Nor­ thwestern university, managing editor for Accent magazine, a magazine for young musicians, has agreed to become the conductor of this new group. Starting Monday, July 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., all interested string players will rehearse with Dr. Wilson at Central Grade school, Crystal Lake. The strings will be expanded to include y/ind instruments in the Fall Rehearsals will be held Mondays for four weeks, starting July 14 and ending Aug^ 4. In the Fall , the presfent plan is to rehearse Saturday mornings. All young string players, primarily in grades 9-12, but also capabkrphryers in lower grades, are encouraged to come to the first rehearsal . and-or to call 459-5124 or 455- 15()4 for more information. If anyone cannot make every rehearsal, or cannot attend any of the Summer rehearsals, they should call one of the numbers listed above to let the coordinators know they would like to start in the Fall . Parents who are in­ terested in this venture are also requested to call and get full information. Restaurateurs Are Married On June 28, Bob Szamlewski and Connie Hoffman exchanged wed­ ding vows in Holiday Hills. Officiating was Reverend Dorothy Wesa. "Something borrowed" was Connie's dress, lent by Linda Sch­ midt. After the ceremony, the new Mr. and 'Mrs. Szamlewski were honored at a wedding reception at the LML in Lakemoor, their "home away from home". Connie's mother, Mrs. Edward Karlic, her sister Bernie Karlic, and her daughters Barbara, Cathy and Robin prepared the delicious food served to more than 100 guests. Due to their efforts a beautiful day was made even more beautiful for Connie. Bob and Connie have given so much to people in our community through service at the restaurant.,Now they want to express their wishes for a happy wedded life. Enjoy, and may your life together be one of loving and caring. SYMPATHY Grace Leske, who lived in Lilymoor for some 30 years, died June 27 in Memorial hospital, Elmhurst. She had been under doctor's care for some time and was staying with her daughter in Melrose Park when she was hospitalized. Her son, Donald, had been caring for his mother for many years. Sincere sym­ pathy is extended to him, his wife Marion, and their son Gary and his family. LIFE CONTINUES Seeing your great, great granddaughter is a thrill not - too many of us are given. Julia Kraus visited at her granddaughter's home in Glenview, and was asked if she wanted to hold two-week- old Valerie Ellen Ellman. To great great grandmother, who had only sons, holding this beautiful baby girl was a truly joyous moment, to be always cherished. Julia has another great great granddaughter who is three years old, but she had not seen her. That is a pleasure she still has to look forward to. HOSPITALIZED Twq dear ladies from Lakemoor have been in the McHenry hospital. Sophie Paterson is resting quietly with no telephone calls to interrupt her recovery. Marie Hyatt, mother of Lakemoor's president Richard, is recuperating also. She was admitted the twenty-seventh of June and is receiving good care and attention from the staff, family and friends. Two former area residents have been hospitalized. Connie Johnson, well remembered in local politcs and as a former president of the McHenry Nunda Library Board, had surgery in Memorial hospital for McHenry county, Wood­ stock. Helen Haines, who moved to Boynton Beach, Fla., from Lilymoor, also had surgery and is still hospitalized. Her sisters will be staying with her. May all these ladies soon be up and enjoying the summer time. GET WELL WISHES Joe DeMarco, designer of the "Cootie Bug" car, has not been feeling too great. Take care of youself, Joe, we need your inventiveness. John Cunningham, Lily Lake road, has had surgery, and is home feeling much better. His son and next door neighbor, Jim, has been taking care of his large lawn and yard PRIZE WINNER Donovan Brizzi of Lilymoor had an exciting day, June 26. fts a result of qualifying for a promotional program through the newspaper he delivers, he and about 40 other youngsters went by bus to the Cubs game. Perhaps due to the boys enthusiasm, the Cubs did win that game. Also included in the days activities, was a tour of the Chicago Tribune building. This was a great day for Donovan, combining his work with newspapers, and the sport he enjoys playing, baseball. BIRTHDAY TIME Patritk Mieszala, Barb and Phil's son,yand Kim Wilson of ^oakemoor, celebrate their Birthdays the same date, July 9. July 10 is shared by John Victor of Lilymoor and Bill Gray of Friizsche Estates, who is starting his fourteenth year. Chris Sances, the dear lady whose husband grows such beautiful roses, adds another year July 14. May this year be one of good health, good friends and good memories. Heidi Louise Kunz, Anita and Albert's daughter, will be a big three y4ars old July fo. Carolyn Miles, new graduate of MCHS, celebrates her birthday the same date. CB FOLLOWUP The Covered Wagon and White Cat returned home safely from Sarona, Wis., but without fish. GOD BLESS > College Honors Degree To A.A. Oakley Andrew Arthur Oakley, of 5901 N. Bunny avenue, McHenry, received a bachelor of science in journalism degree from Northwestern university at commencement exercises held in Evanston Approximately 3,500 degrees, diplomas and certificates were conferred by Northwestern University President Robert H. Strotz at the 122nd annual com­ mencement, held in McGaw Memorial hall. Named To Dean's List Dr. Kenneth Conroy, academic dean at Quincy college, has announced academic honors received by students during the second semester of the 1979- 80 school year. Students achieving between a 3.7 and 4.0 (A equals 4) were named to the Dean's list, while students achieving between Michael Aim Graduates Michael Thomas Aim, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Aim of 4204 W. Ponca, McHenry, recently received a Bachelor of Business degree from Western Illinois university, Macomb. He was among 1,400 in the graduating class. University President Leslie F. Mapass addressed the graduates at the com­ mencement. "" Michael is a 1976 graduate of Marian high school. a 3.0 and 3.69 were named to the Honor roll. In all, l£0 students were named to the Dean's List, and 292 students were named to the Honor Roll. Craig Adams, son of Mr. * and Mrs. Charles Adams of 3616 W. Grand avenue, McHenry, has been named to the Dean's list. By G0U0 CROOK MUSEUM GRANTS Gov. James R. Thompson recently announced grants to 27 public museums in Illinois totaling $1.5 million. The state funds will go to institutions either operated by local governments, or located on property owned by a local government. All recipients are permanent, non-profit public entities. TROOP 131 * Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 131 Blackhawk Area Council attended Camp p Lowden this past week. Camp Lowden is located on the banks of the Rock river near Oregon, 111. The program offered the Scouts is developed around Scout advancement in the out-of- doors. Swimming/) rifle, and ar­ chery and nature study are just a fewfof the activities the boys «an participate in. While at Camp Lowden they had an opportunity to earn merit badges in aquatics, scout craft, ecology and nature con­ servation to name a few. The boys left for Camp Lowden June 21. Camp consisted of a week of fun for the boys, June 22 through June 28.
