PAGE 4 - PLALNDEALER - FRIDAY. JULY 11. II A H K I . r i V , P A W S • ANIMAL WELFARE ASSOCIATION P.O. Box 205 • Crystal Loke. Illinois 60014 * (•'5)4$* 2641 ' By Kathleen Thayer Helping Paws is always happy to receive letters from readers but at times, ^ne is received that is upsetting In rebuttal to an article written about new laws that were under consideration and discussion. a reader misunderstood the meaning of that law This was not what was so upsetting to HP. for constructive criticism will bring about a working responsible way to eliminate the over pe: population problem What was upsetting, was the statement. "1 see the purpose of Helping Paws to be to love animals that come under its temporary care (and there will be many i and maintain ihe positive at titude that there is a loving home-Waiting for each and every one of them." When HP read this letter, many of the volunteers almost wept in , disbelief How badly HP has failed to educate the public to be aware of the seriousness of ;his problem How wonderful it would be to be able to say yes. ••there is a home for every ope of them V How wonderful it would be not to have to face monthly statistics of deaths in Kane and McHenry county shelters because the ruth of life is. that there are riot enough homes for all of them . The proposed law would eliminate indiscriminate breeding and prevent useless deaths before they were born People at agencies where deaths :ake place are the first to be frustrated by the public s lack of awareness of their horendous task Many- agencies must change personnel monthly of those who are responsible for killing healthy pups and kittens just because there are too mbny The pressure of this task is at times so depressing that k»g vacations away from their jobs are needed That fact alone makes HP shudder when someone so carelessly remarks that we should "think postivieh All the thinking in the world won't make those homes appear No one has any idea what lengths HP takes to save a life Perhaps this woman would like to ake over the phone for one month and learn not to speak so quickly when lives are at stake Perhaps it is our fault for not making the facts of life and death clearer to her All pet adoptions become valid only when a contract is signed at the time of adoption and the fee is provided by a check made out to Helping Paws Any one paying by cash should receive a written receipt to that effect The adoption fee includes the cost of the spay or/ieuter surgery if done by a vet of HP's choice, or a deduction from the cost of the surgery if done by a vet of your choice * DOGS FOR ADOPTION , Year old female. 60 poiinds, housebroken. all shots, does tricks 312-382- 2319 x 8-monih-male, black with while markings, very cute, x small, shots, good w ith J children and pets. 33*4719 German Shepherd mix male. tan. good family pet. 385-9123 - Shepherd Husky paps, fuzzy coats, many colors. 16 puppies 385-9123 Golden Retriever. 4 years, semi-long coat, all shots, very loving pet. 459-6256 German Shepherd mix pups, fuzzy. 8 weeks. The Private Industry council of the McHenry County CETA program is sponsoring a comprehensive study of- child care in McHenry county. Several thousand parents will be called during July and August and asked their HSA-KLM opinions abort a variety of child care issues. In ad dition. county employers and employees will be asked about their opinions and * I|IPI i*nr»i« John Clark, assistant personnel director of Oak Industries and chairman of the Private Industry council. said, "Provision of adequate child care services is essential to a growing McHenry county. Illinois McHenry Illinois To Your Health A Service of McHenry Hospital By Marion Olsen "This just hasn't been my day' is a common comment when it seems that nothing has gone right. Scien tifically. this statement may be fact. There is evidence that people function on a cyclical basis of from 23 to 33 days. During this cycle some days are "critical" meaning that various body functions are not synchronized normally. We all are aware of a daily rhythm in our lives, par ticularly in relation to sleep. Some people require a regular eight hours of sleep every night or complain bitterly of feeling unwell. Jet lag is the result of the disruption caused by changing time zones which throws the body systems out of synchronization. Other daily habits when examined indicate that we have lows and peaks during the day. Physical signs in clude fluctuating body temperatures, blood sugar levels, hormone levels and urine volume. Notable reactions may be irritability at breakfast, tiredness late in the afternoon and feeling cooler at night than in the daytime. We can all examine our daily lives for a week or two and note at what time of the 1980 Fiesta Days Parade Application Suv^Jay, July 27 Theme: INTERNATIONAL FOLK FEST Name Business/ Organization. Then we can plan to do the most difficult tasks at that time, if possible. Recognizing the time of day when we feel the lowest may help us avoid con frontations with children, spouses or co-workers. Women are more aware of physical cycles because of their menstrual cycles. However, men also exr perience monthly cycles <people vary in the length of cycles). " • « While it is easier to note a daily cycle, monthly cycles can also be analyzed. Methods of doing this require more study. Research indicates that on certain days we are more susceptible to illness, less energetic and less clear in our thinking. At other times we experience the opposite of those lows resulting in peak performance. When we find it difficult to accomplish a task, putting it off until tomorrow may make scientific as well as common sense. Or we may learn to work slower and more carefully when everything seems to be going wrong. -* Most important, this scientific explanation of our physical fluctuations may make us more un derstanding of ourselves and others as we'lekrii to live with our bodies. ) Definition Cranberrie^: Grapes with high blood pressure. -News, McAlester, Okla. ^American Viewpoints -- , The income tax has made more liars out of the American people than golf has Eien make a tax fdj^tout on the TSfi. you don l knom[uhen it s through tf you are a crook or a martyr.
