It seems to be the topic of discussion whenever a group of Wonder Lake people get together. As of July 22, the Village of Sunrise Ridge has officially changed its name to the Village of Wonder Lake. So far, many different board of directors from subdivisions have met with Mr. James Rachels president of Sunrise Ridge" who is encouraging in­ corporation. The vote will have to be put before the people in each subdivision. Make sure your opinion is known to the officials of your subdivision. It is not a foregone conclusion one way or the other yet so get your opinion heard. YOUNG AT HEARTS TAKE A BOAT TRIP Twenty-eight members of the Young At Hearts met in Christ the King hall on July 16 for their regular meeting. The major topic of discussion was the finalizing of plans for the boat ride July 23 around Lake Geneva. They were to enjoy luncheon also aboard the boat. Twenty-nine members signed up for the trip. Two future trips were discussed, one to Shady Lane and the other to Fort Atkinson. A sympathy card was sent to Nelly Margolis from the club after the death of her husband, Julius. Get well wishes were sent to two members, Frank Pitsen and Elmira Simone, who have been hospitalized. Mr. Pitsen is undergoing some tests and Mrs. Simone is recovering from a frac­ tured hip. Delicious desserts were supplied by Marian Draf- fkorn, Lorraine Fejedelem, and Ann Schupolsky. The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting and playing favorite card games. The next meeting will be held Aug. 6 at Christ the King hall, beginning at 10:30 a.m. RUMMAGE SALE If you are in the process of summer cleaning and come across articles you no longer need, but which might be useful to someone else, hold on to them for just a couple of weeks more. The Ladies Sodality of Christ the King church will be holding a Rummage Sale from Aug. 28-31. They would be grateful for any contribution to make their sale a success. GARDEN CLUB The heat and humidity were forgotten at the July meeting of the Wonder Lake Garden club with the gracious hostess, Mrs. Fern Mecham, greeting members at her home. Guest speaker was Mrs. Beth Wagner, whose presentation, "Flowers On Buttons", was outstanding! The tigers look second place with a 8-4 record. Third place went to the Indians, fourth to the White Sox, and fifth to the Angels. DeBuhr, son of Alfred A. and Cynthia DeBuhr of 207 W. Broadway. McHenry, was graduated from Fire Control Technician school. During the 23-week course at the Naval Training center, Great Lakes, he received instruction on the electronic weapons systems installed aboard current U.S. warships. He studied the operating principles and procedures of radar, digital computers and related shipboard equipment used to control the firing of guns, missiles and torpedoes. A 1979 graduate of Johnsburg high school, he joined the Navy in July, 1979. Airman Completes Lackland Training CLASS x The state's Class "X" sentencing law was ex­ panded when Governor Thompson signed legislation to "slam the prison door" on violent criminals after their third conviction. Provisions of the new law include: 1) deletion of the provision in the present law that requires all three Class X convictions were committed after Feb. 1, 1978 ; 2) addition of home invasion, heinous battery, hard drug sales, calculated criminal drug conspiracy and armed violence to the already existing list of of­ fenses classified as Class X; and 3) expansion of the provision which proclaims a three-time loser only if all three crimes were com­ mitted in Illinois. Crimes committed elsewhere, if they contain the same elements as Class X crimes in Illinois, may be included with those committed in Illinois to make a total of three. Airman Wayne D. Lemke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold F. Lemke of 801 N. Draper road, McHenry, has been assigned to Sheppard Air Force base, Texas, after completing Air Force basic training. During the six weeks at Lackland Air Force base, San Antonio, Texas, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree in applied science through the Community college of the Air Force. The airman will now receive specialized in­ struction in the aircraft maintenance field. Airman Lemke is a 1980 graduate of McHenry West high school. PROMOTED Marine Lance Cpl. Gerald L. Tower drive, McHenry, has been promoted to his present rank while serving with 3rd Force Service Support group on Okinawa. A 1978 graduate of McHenry West high school, he ioined the Marine corps in February, 1979. Promotion For T.J. Nowak Of Spring Grove Thomas J. Nowak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Nowak, 1302 Third avenue, Spring Grove, recently was promoted to Army specialist four while assigned to the operation of surveillance and search radars, elec­ tronic recognition and identification equipment, aircraft approach control devices and electronic aids to navigation. Their studies were designed to prepare them for duty in a shipboard combat information center or at a shore based fleet training center. He joined the Navy in January, I960. U.S. Army Medical department activity at Fort Bel voir, Va. The appointing orders for this promotion slated "...The Secretary of the Army has placed special trust and confidence in this soldier's patriotism, valor, fidelity and abilities." PLAY AUDITIONS Tryouts for Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer prize winning play, "Our Town", directed by Tom Hausman, will be held Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 4 and 5, from 8-10 p.m. at PM&L theater, 877 Main street, Antioch. A large cast is needed for this show which will kick off PM&L's Season 20. The first rehearsal will be Monday, Aug. 11, and production dates are Sept. 20, 26, 27, 28 and Oct. 3 and 4.
