AUGUST 13, IMS Oaks Marathon vs. Nelan's Liquors • 6:36 game Oaks Marathon continued their hitting streak as they pounded out 19 hits, scoring 24 runs and holding Nolans scoreless. Oaks winning pitcher, Cookie Stanowski, chalked up another win giving up only 1 hit, and no walks. Kathy Barry who wait 5 for 5, with 5 singles, and scoring 4 runs made a brillant defensive move when she fielded a ground ball in short left field, and still threw the runner out at first, with an accurate throw. Although Oaks played with only 9 players the defense remained tight, and each girl scored at least once and had at least one hit. Brakes Nuts vs. Sunnyside Inn - 7:30game Brake Parts started out with a bang, as five batters: Patti Thelen, Diane Wilson, Cis Morner, Bernie Shaver and Mary Ellen Doherty all singled resulting in three runs being scored. Ranging in age from 20 to 50, the alumni limped, groaned and slipped on the soggy McCracken Field diamond in a valiant effort to show themselves that they could still play the game. After eight innings, both teams had enough and decided to settle for a 3-3 tie. The "oldies" took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning after second baseman Russ Williams grounded to short and Ray Bottari struck out. Ken Bottari singled to left, stole second and later scored on an overthrow by the catcher. In the fourth, however, the present team scored two runs after the alumni's pitcher Bill Lang walked two batters and gave up back-to- back hits to Kurt Valentin and Mark Vogt. With the score at 2-1, the alumni tied the game in the sixth when shortstop Henry Glick walked, advanced to Caption! third on a Russ William's hit- and-run single to right, and scored when Williams in tentionally got caught in a pickle between first and HOUSE WTH HIS DOG *HOMER WilliaMs scored the go- ahead run in the critical eighth inning after walking and coming home on a double to right by Ken Bottari. With hearts throbbing with excitement and exhaustion, the alumni gave up the tying run in the bottom of the eighth when Valentin reached base on a "routine" error by shortstop Henry Glick. Bazan doubled Valentin to third and Valentin scored on a two-out single to left by Joe Bellich. For the alumni, Ken Bottari had two hits in four at bats with one run scored and one RBI.
