PAGE 4 - PLA1NDEALER - WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20,1980 Start Improvement At Memorial Hospital The first phase of long- range plans to improve the facilities of Memorial Hospital for McHenry county, Woodstock, began Tuesday as workmen started construction of the all-new power plant. As a result of the con struction, several changes have been made to minimize inconveniences and in terruptions in parking. Lee Pesce, executive " director, said most em ployee parking is being channeled to another area with the cooperation of city officials, leaving the west half of the parking lot north of the entrance on South street available for visitors and late-shift employees. The upper parking lot on South street by Dr. Han's office will be for his patients and visitors. ' The construction of the new power plant will provide: new boilers significantly more energy efficient than the present heating plant, an additional electrical generator for emergency power, an up dated maintenance shop to include a section for biomedical engineering and improved materials han dling, storage, and delivery areas. Mi Licensed health-care practitioners who dispense the more dangerous drugs must comply with a new Illinois law that requires periodic notification to the Department of Registration and Education by means of filling out triplicate prescription blanks. Practitioners who ad minister such drugs, or who dispense or administer barbiturates, must list such actions in a separate record. That is the subject of a public hearing which is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wed nesday, Aug. 20, in the department's offices on the 17th floor at 55 E. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, 111., 60604. Interested persons - both those who attend and those who do not attend the hearing -- may submit written comments and points of view to the department. The deadline is Sept. 8. Specifically up for discussion will be proposed rules being promulgate^ for the administration of a new provision in the Illinois Controlled Substance (Dangerous Drugs) act. Open Concert Membership VIETNAM I have removed about 15 mandibles. This p.m. in one of the hospitals I started to examine a meningioma on the face of a 12-year-old girl. It was the size of a water melon. You can imagine what she looked like. It started to bleed by the bucketful, and for about two hours I went through an exhausting experience. After that I removed half a necrotic jaw of a four-year- old. I will never relive these experiences-and I would rather not. Have not slept nights and the reason is obvious. As the Summer leads into the busy Fall season, volunteers throughout McHenry county have been hard at work preparing for the 1980-81 membership campaign for the Com munity Concerts association of Crystal Lake. This year's membership campaign will be held from Sept. 14 through 27, and will find some 200 volunteers selling memberships in the four-concert series which will extend from Nov. 8 to April 3. Community Concerts, a non-profit, nation-wide organization, is dedicated to the ideal of bringing top quality music to audiences in smaller communities throughout the country. This season, the four concerts to be presented highlight small ensembles, including "Toccatas and Flourishes", a lively, in formal program of music for trumpet and organ Nov. 8; the Aspen Soloists, a trio of young musicians, Nov. 14; and a harp-flute duo, Wilson and Allen, April 13, 1961. The spice of variety will be provided by the Young Americans March 20, who will offer a full scale revue of music by Gershwin. The palace rooms had been emptied of furniture and on the floor on bamboo mats were 150 patients in various stages of far-advanced disease. Most of them were accompanied by their families and as far as the eye could see there was a mass of half-naked, bandaged bodies. It looked like the Atlanta scene in "Gone With the Wind." There was no place to examine these people so we set up the corners of the rooms as examining areas.
