RESIDENTIAL In the first semi-final game, the first place Old Bridge team combined tough defense with offense to top the 3rd place Residential team 12-5. Leading the team hitting for Old Bridge were Alice Hoffmann and Kim Martin who doubled. On the field Old Bridge combined their efforts twice with double plays. The first on a line shot to the pitcher, Kathy Joyce who then caught the runner off first, and the second when Mary Martin fielded a ground ball at short and threw the runner out at first, and then Debbie Hoffman, playing first threw to third to Karen Gutekunst who tagged the runner trying to advance for an extra base. Karen Gutekunst also made an exceptional play when she caught the ball over her head running away from the infield. For Residential Sue McDougal powered out a homerun. Old Bridge appreciates their supporters and coaches: Neal Gutekunst and Phil Hoffmann. OAK PARK VS. MCHENRY LIMO On another field, a semi-final playoff game was like a see­ saw. With both team battling it out Oak Park was able to squeak by McHenry Limo 10-9. Limo jumped out to a quick lead in the first with a homer by Annette Hansen, a single by Pat Vavrik and double by Karen Heuer giving them a 4-2 edge. Oak Park switched into gear and took the lead, but the game wasn't to be given up yet by McHenry Limo as throughout the entire game the lead was jostled between the two teams. Oak Park'» pitcher Cheryl Markvart executed a fine pick- off play to first, and Wendy Williams was the big slugger, pounding out a double and a triple, helping to maintain their slight lead. 3RD PLACE GAME- PLAYOFFS McHENRY LIMO VS. RESIDENTIAL In accumulating 8 runs on 13 hits McHenry Limo walked away with third place honors over RDG, 8-2. The second inning for Limo saw three runs cross the plate as Shirley Mann singled, Cheryl Zito and Chris Amore walked, loading the bases, and Phyllis Meisner walked enabling the runner on third to score, and with Annette Hansen (who went 3 for 4) singling; scoring a total of 3 runs. OAK PARK LOUNGE Oak Park Lounge was in command of the entire game as they walked away with a 7-1 victory over Old Bridge. Oak Park's pitcher Cheryl Markvart allowed only six hits with one run scoring. Oak Park's defense was too sound to allow more than the sole run. At the end of two, Oak Park held a 3-0 edge when both Wendy Williams and Kristi Harper homered and Cathy Fuchs singled. The third inning produced 2 more runs with singles by Sandy Rohrer, and Kristi Harper, and a double by Wendy Williafns bringing the score to 5-1. They then went out and held 3-D Bowl to no runs in the eighth, and got the clincher in the bottom of the frame with two singles and a walk. Final score Foxhole 8, 3-D Bowl 7. The winning run was provided by Rich Meyers, as he came across on Billy Meyer's base hit with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. Errors were costly on both sides, as in Foxhole's third inning, when two 3-D errors paved the way for four runs as Foxhole took a 5-0 lead going into the fourth inning. Then 3-D Bowl cut the deficit to one run, a* two con secutive Foxhole errors and four singles made the score 5-4 Foxhole. Both offenses were quieted until the top of the sixth, when 3-D picked up two hits and a walk as they forged ahead 7-5. That set up the dramatics of the bottom of the seventh. Myron Bentz and Ron Miller singled, a fly out and groundout followed, and Tom Hurckes came through with the clutch two- out hit that sent the ball game into extra innings. That set up Bill Meyer's heroics, as Foxhole took a 1-0 series lead. 3-D Bowl 0 0 0 4 0 3 0 0 - 7 Foxhole 0 1 4 0 0 0 2 1-8 Game 2 In game 2, 3-D Bowl could not stay with the powerful Foxhole attack, as they amassed nine runs in the middle innings, to take a 9-2 lead. 3-D threatened in the sixth and seventh innings, but the Foxhole defense held tight in the 9-6 victory. Foxhole leads the series two games to none. Rich Meyers and Bill Meyers are 4-8 in two games to lead Foxhole, followed by Ron Miller who is 3-6. On the other side, 3-D Bowl is lead by Dale Anderson who is 3-7, followed by Ken Cook at 2-3. The series continues on September 4. The series is being pushed back a week due to the majority of the Foxhole team being away at the 12-Inch National tour­ nament with their "Tour­ nament Team" Hiller & Hamm.
