PAGE 14 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY. SEPTEMBER S. 1«M As most of you know, McHenry High School has been separated into two, four-year high schools. In doing so, the school board has also decided to field only one athletic program between the two schools, with students at both schools participating on the same team. Unlike Crystal Lake and other school districts which have split into two or more separate sports programs, McHenry has decided to forego the possibility of for ming two separate athletic programs. There are advantages for both ways of competing. For example, advantages of keeping only one sports department aspire to the fact that there are more kids who participate per team, which means more to pick from, or better talent. Also, having one big team means hiring less coaches, Athletic Directors, ...etc. Thirdly, in McHenry's case, the two campuses are close enough together so that each can share the pool and tennis courts, thus less spending. There are advantages to having two separate programs also. For one, teams would not be so big, so everyone would theoretically get to play. It would create more jobs in the coaching and athletic part of the two schools and give spectators one more school to choose from in their quest for good entertainment. It would also create competitiveness between the two schools, something sorely needed in McHenry. Of course there are disadvantages to each system, but the question remains ...
