SMALL, BUT MIGHTY-is what coach Bob Texidor (far left) hopes his Skyhawk cross country team is this year. With only one senior on Che team, they are building for the future with the bulk of the team, being sophomores. Joining Texidor are Steve Kalsch, sophomore. Bob Baker, senior letterman, Paul Metcger, sophomore, Jay Jackson, sophomore, Ken Schoenig. freshman, Chris Tennis on, freshman and Dennis Christie, senior. SEPTEMBER S, 1 WO (Continued from page 12) this yeor, so Texidor has ideas of running his young team in only junior varsity and sophomore meets. "I am thinking about foregoing all ^varsity com petition so that I can work with the sophomores in or der to build for the future," the graduate from Nor thern Illinois University said. Others who will compete in 1981 are Dennis Christie, senior, Paul Metzger, Jay Jackson and Steve Kalsch, sophomores, and Ken Schoenig and Chris Tennison, the freshmen. "Jay Jackson is a premier runner who will help the attack tremendously for the sophomores," Texidor added. "I think I'll keep the sophomores together so they get use to running with each other and will be ready to compete in a few years." Texidor said that the small group is easy to work with and that he runs with them in order to encourage the younger boys to run. He added that especially with his team, he will make a point to work with the freshmen and sophomores a little extra in order to build for years to come. "You have to be encouraging in cross country because it is a very demanding sport," Texidor ex plained. "It's a very singular sport too in which there is no glory involved from others. All the fun and satisfac tion they get is generated from within themselves." He also noted that it takes time to make a good team and that he hopes to start a winning tradition within two years at Johnsburg. "We're bound to pick up a few good young runners along the way so that by the time my young ones are ready, we should be a real contender," he said op- timistically. "Maybe even next yeor."
