"I feel that I can fill in anybody after my top four players and can still win consistently." Other girls who should help out this year, according to the coach, are Michelle Kammermeier, Maura Con­ nolly and Cathy Sharp, all juniors. Sophomore Mary Newkirk is also expected to do well this year for the varsity. Because of such keen competition, Muldawney said that the attitude has been great so far. "I had to kick some of them off of the courts the other day just so I could finally go home an see my Daughter," Muldawney mused. The top four teams in the conference will be Benet, Marian, St. Francis and Rosary and that Benet and Marian should fight it out for the one and two spots. As sophomore and freshmen tennis coach, Muldawney thinks that Marian's sophomores have an excellent chance to win the conference also. Although Mary never did play organized sports at college in Monmouth, Illinois, she was very active in cheerleading and perfecting gymnastic skills. After graduating with a degree in physical education, die started her coaching career at Boylan Catholic, commanding the volleyball and track team there. She later moved on to Florida, where she coached volleyball for Miami Shores Junior High. Two years ago, Mary led her Hurricanes to a sixth place finish in the State Tournament, while she advanced to the supersectionals last year. Her goal is to finish with at least a .500 record this year. After high school at Rockford, Kerry went to Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, where he graduated in psychology and played football as a freshman. His biggest moment as a coach came last year when the varsity ended up as co- champs of the conference with Benet at 14-1. In 1977, Kerry was honored in the American University Who's Who. He is married and has a seven- month-old daughter named Emily by his wife Christine. Unlike Carol Kanetzke over at Johnsburg, Mary Stoner has an over-all taller team than in years past at Marian Central.Stoner has lost Renee DeRosier, Patti Thelen, and Lori Vogt from last year's super-sectional team, but that hasn't stopped her from anticipating a good future. "We have a good mix of talent this year with six seniors, six Juniors and one outstanding sophomore in Holly Ryan of Wonder lake, " Stoner noted.
