Johnsburg Mary L. Gunderson 385-3052 School Days B.V.M. Sodality call Mrs. Michael (Eva) Schaefer; Lady Foresters call Mrs. Are Here Now 0efntag; by Yes, they are here again, and our children are back in classes. Kindergarten youngsters are happily boarding school buses each morning, carrying their school bags and looking like little ladies and gentlemen. When children have waited rather impatiently for the great day of "going to school", they are ecstatic. God bless each and every one of our young and growing children and high schoolers with all that they need for our world today. Be sure to keep a sharp lookout for children as you drive! CONGRATULATIONS ....to Lisbeth Davidson, who was served at the table of the Lord for the first time Sunday, Aug. 24, at St. John's, and best wishes to her parents. HOME AND HOSPITAL Keep in your prayers Lillian Farej, Christine Glus, Mrs. Nancy Lippert and Doris Robert, also your neighbors and relatives as well as those whom we do not know are ill. BEST WISHES ....to Mr. and Mrs. An- t h o n y K u r o w s k i , parishioners of St. John the Baptist church, who remembered their thirty- third wedding anniversary with a Mass on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 5 p.m. Clara and Anthony were married at St. John Cantius church, Chicago, in 1947. They have five children, the oldest, Annette, who is married, Anthony, Karen, Theresa and Dolores, four grandchildren - three granddaughters and one grandson. Congratulations, and many more happy years. LUNCHEON AND PLAY Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality of St. John's and St. Agatha Court 777, I^ady Foresters are sponsdring a luncheon and play Wed nesday, Oct. 1, at Crescent Bay Landing. For reser vations and information, Sept. 24. DAY OF RECOLLECTION National Catholic Society of Foresters will have a Day of Recollection Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Bishop Lane Retreat house, Rockford. All Lady Foresters are invited. Make reservations to Mrs. Richard (Kate) Dehn, by Sept. 17. VACATION During July, the Gun- derson's (Hillcrest place) and Klein's (Blitsch place), enjoyed a vacation in the West. First stop was Portland, Ore., for the wedding of a relative. "It was a lovely service and so nice to see members of the family who reside there. On the return trip, they visited the Pacific ocean, Mt. Rainier and Yellowstone National parks, Mt. Rushmore and the South Dakota Badlands. The scenery was awesome, weather good, roads in exceptionally good condition. Though there were many people vacationing at this time, very good order was maintained by the Forest Rangers. One feels very small and insignificant in such areas, with the mountains that soar so close to the clouds, the geysers, paint pots and falls of yellowstone, the t r e m e n d o u s a c - complishmnet of the presidents carved in Mt. Rushmore, and the Badlands where you can envision the dinosaurs in their previous haunts. Truly God made many beautiful things for His people to enjoy. Let us thank Him for our many blessings! SOLAR POOL COVERS The Illinois Department of Public Health issued a warning against swimming in pools partially covered with solar pool covers. William L. Kempiners, director of the state health department, described a solar pool cover as a buoyant, translucent plastic cover designed to heat the water through passive solar energy from the sun. "Swimmers who swim under part of a solar pool cover risk surfacing into the device and being unable to breathe," said Kempiners. Consumers wishing to provide or request in formation on solar pool covers may call the toll-free Hotline at 800-638-8326. • • • • Wisdom is the art of proportion. • • • * Beware of the jolly backslapper. WATCH FOR CHILDREN Now that school has started I'd like to remind everyone we have to watch out for the kids waiting at bus stops. Some of the younger children who are going to school for the first time don't realize they have to stay on the side of the road. If you come upon a bus that is stopped please be sure to stop your car until the bus starts up again. Some of the kids cross the street as soon as they get off the bus, so be sure to watch out for them. And parents, please remind your children to be careful when they cross the street. BIRTHDAY PICNIC When Tracy Prazak 385-7246 turned 8 years old Aug. 29, she celebrated by having a picnic at Petersen park. Her parents, Ken and Sue and sister Heather, took some of her friends to the park on Sunday Aug. 24. Hot dogs were cooked on the grill and cake and candy were in abundance. The children who attended and enjoyed playing lawn jarts and a card game were Sherry, Kelly and Michael Boyle, Tabitha and Ryan Kenney, Allen and Brad Bitterman and Cissie Koch. Before heading home everyone burned off their excess energy playing on the swings and the big slide. CUB SCOUT NEWS Cub Scout Pack 162 is beginning another year this month. My phone hasn't rung very much the last two weeks, so now is the time to call. Some people have told me their neighbors can't understand why I never mention them in the column. All you have to do is give me a call so I can add you to the date book and you'll be sure to see your name mentioned on your special day. LITTLE LEAGUE NEWS The Lakeland Park little league ended another season early August and a picnic was given for the boys and their families on Sunday, Aug. 24 at Moraine Hills. The first place team were the undefeated Cards, coached by Art Kreutzer and assisted by his wife Bev. (Bev did a great job as official bat girl) Second place was taken by the Athletics, coached by Jack Bucaro. Third place team was the Expos, coached by Ron Thielan. Fourth place was won by the Sox, coached by Frank Sweeney. The Cards give an award to the most improved player and it was given to Chris Mann this year. We will look forward to next spring when another baseball season begins. TESTING NEWBORNS Gov. James R.
