Hanahan, a pro-family leader, has 16 years ex perience in the Illinois House, and will address the concerns of ERA in working families in jobs, benefits and tensions. Several other speakers will discuss topics pertinent to families with young children or adolescents, including Father Francis X. Lawlor and Rev. George Zarris of the Moral Majority of Illinois. Performers will include McHenry contralto, Angela Amici, as well as the Bluegrass Travelers, Rob Knowlton and Kathy Kay of Richmond. Mrs. Amici has sung with Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Illinois Opera Repertory company, and the Cho-cho San Opera com pany, in addition to her own concerts of operatic arias and art songs in five languages. Her program will include a rich variety of classical music, favorite American songs, and Gospel music. The Bluegrass Travelers play country and western, and bluegrass music, and have performed throughout the northern Illinois area for several years. The conference is open to all interested persons in Illinois and Wisconsin. It begins at 9 a.m., with the day session running until 4 p.m., l u n c h e o n i n c l u d e d . RECESS BUSINESS ZONING HEARING (Continued from page 1) that stands on the property. Anton Williams expressed concern over the effect of the business zoning on other lots in the area. "If this goes commercial, would that put my lot in line for commercial?" Williams asked. Fouse noted that if Williams wanted his property to be zoned com mercial, he, too, would have to appear before the ZBA, the Plan commission and the City Council. "They couldn't make me?" he asked. "No," the board replied. State law requires a voted of five before a recom mendation from the ZBA can be made and Fouse suggested that the meeting be continued to another date because there were only four voting members of the board present. Kupstis was ex cused for cause, Robert Jessup was out of town and Harold Spruth had resigned. The hearing was recessed until 2:30 p.m. Oct. 3. MENTAL HEALTH BUDGET HAS APPROVAL (Continued from page 1) by Clint Claypool's knowledge of mental health operations. He is the County board member on the 708 board. Voetberg also reported receiving the initial draft of the audit of funds used in operations of the Senior Citizens council, which earlier had revealed some discrepancies in handling of their monies. He said his committee would study it for the next several weeks before commenting on the audit. The 708 board has been advised by officials of the council that all payroll taxes (approximately $50,000) in question earlier had been paid. The 708 board approved the initial concept of its three-year plan for mental health programs for the county as submitted by Phyllis Koeppel, chairman of the planning committee. 'ass? "SSaf SEE . . . Rte. 120 -McHenry, Illinois We're On The Move - McHenry, Illinois 815-385-5970 She noted that it was most comprehensive and based on what the board and staff would like to see happen. When Claypool noted the presence of the word "in crease" and his ap prehension about what the connotations of it could mean in the way of more spending, Voetberg asked if the committee had any idea of the cost of the proposed program. The answer was no, but Ann Patla, assistant director, said the staff could calculate them. The goals and objectives of the proposed plan will go to the Planning and Management board for a* public review later, Smith noted. In other actions, the 708 board approved again an expenditure of $6,850 from the second year NIMH grant for a car for the Transitional Living Facility currently under construction by Pioneer center. Smith thought that re-approval at the federal level would be routine. The expenditure had been proposed and approved from first year grant monies, but had not been spent, Smith said. The board also accepted Planning and Management board recommendations and comments on the Senior Citizens program update, work plans for program evaluations, inservice training for board members and reaffirmation that the. current slide program depicting mental health goals and activities for the county still meets local needs.
