Coach Joe Schlender will try and get his Warriors back on the winning track tomorrow when the Warriors travel to Dundee to take on the Cards in an afternoon performance. The Warriors just having lost to the top three teams in the Fox Valley by wide margins, are looking forward to a schedule with teams of their own caliber. The Cards of Jerry Curtright art' 1 and 2 in conference play, but are coming off a big 48-0 whipping at the hands of Crystal Lake Tigers last Friday night The Cards are about the same size as the Warriors, but are not as quick as the speedy Warrior backs. Although they have two good-sized linemen in their lineup, they have not been too aggressive as yet, ac cording to Curtright The Warriors, still smarting from the homecoming defeat at the hands of Cary Grove, will be looking for their first con ference win of the season and the start of a winning streak that could bring them one of their goals of the season, a winning record Having played the best, the Warriors welcome taking on the rest o| the pack during the remainder of the season. The Warriors of Joe Schlender are looking for a victory tomorrow afternoon at Dundee. Having played the best in the Fox Valley the past three weeks, it seems that the Warriors are due for some relief. On past performances this season, the Warriors should be a slight favorite, and fans are wondering if the Card's will kick the ball to Dave D'Angelo. The speedy Warrior back has returned a kickoff back for a touchdown in each of the last three games. Here is hoping the young lad can give the local fans another thrill tomorrow afternoon. Chuck Cuda's golfers gave a splendid performance at l^ke Forest last Saturday, finishing second to a strong Deerfield squad. Then on Tuesday a bit of a letdown, and a third place finish in the Fox Valley conference. District was held yesterday at Bonnie Brook in Waukegan, and on this Tuesday evening we along with all Warrior fans are wishing them the best of luck in their bid to go to Springfield for the State Finals later this month. A bit of sorrow to you old time Warrior fans. My old coach, and the one whom I succeeded at St. Mary's of Woodstock, Mel Stuessy passed away last week. "Stuess" as he was known to his legion of fans, players and'officials, was indeed a legend in his own time. Words cannot express my feeling of what I have to that gentleman. When I first talked about going into teaching and coaching, he encouraged me in every way. He not only was a fine coach, but a fine example of a man. He and his sidekick "Toney Roskie" officiated many a game'at the old East campus gym. The assembly of former athletes, friends and follow officials at the funeral home last Saturday night in Woodstock would fill volumes of books He may l>e gone, but but in the minds of hundreds of his boys" not forgotten. It was indeed a sad day in the hearts of in.my.when "Stuess" passed away. Tommy Hutchinson, son of Bill and Jo Ann Hutchinson has an interesting letter to newspaper people, along with officials of the Big Ten Conference. Tom throws the javelin, and 1 might add is pretty good at this event. His complaint and a just one, is that the event is included in the women's event in the Big Ten, but not the men. His letter states that he is asking for support to include this event in the Big Ten It is an Olympic event, plus almost every other conference in the country has it in its program. Tom has the backing of former Olympic coach Sam Bell of Indiana university, along with the coach of the University of Illinois. What makes this letter unique, here is an individual ready to challenge the "bigwigs" of the Big Ten conference. Tom has trained hard, dedicated to the task ahead of him. • The Big Ten will meet this month to vote on Tom's request. Here is hoping the former Warrior can make a point with probably the most prestigious conference in the country. Tom has the backing if the request fails, to take legal action against the Big Ten, on the basis of sex discrimination. Here is wishing luck to Tom in his fine effort to get the javelin included as a Big Ten event. Only the Warriors cracked my crystal ball last week, so I'm giving them another chance. I'll take the Warriors to spoil Dundee's homecoming this week. In the top game of the Fox Valley I'll pick Woodstock over Crystal Lake South. Central to keep Jacobs in the winless column in Central's homecoming. The Trojans of Cary Grove over Crown. The Blue Streaks are the third ranked team in the state in Class 4-A. Coach Cis Morner said that the record does not indicate how well the team has been playing because the four losses have come from power houses like Oak Park, Lake Forest, Maine East and Deerfield who stock their team with 50 or so players.
