STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLOBD Crystal Lake Chapter No. 189 of Parents Without Partners will have its next general meeting on Friday, Oct. 17 at the American Legion hall, Oak and Woodstock streets, Crystal Lake. The business meeting will begin at 8:30 with a short program by the League of Women Voters to follow. There will be refreshments, dancing and good con­ versation after the program. All first-time guests are urged to attend the orien­ tation at 8 p.m. where they may obtain a 45-day trial card and learn more about P.W.P. To be eligible for mem­ bership in P.W.P. one must be a parent and be single by reason of divorce, death, separated or never married. Custody of the children is not necessary. Church Women Sponsor Bazaar And Bake Sale A recent request has been received for a baby crib, play-pen, high chair and other furniture for a 3- month-old infant. Also needed are pots and pans for cooking and baking, a cook stove, possibly some mixing bowls, spoons and bunk beds. Reading this, one can count one's own blessings and consider how these folks' needs can be helped. FISH can give anyone a receipt for donations made for income tax records. T h a n k s g i v i n g a n d Christmas will soon be heilf^ and extra food will be needed at that time. The annual Fall Bazaar and Bake sale, sponsored by the women of the First United Methodist church of McHenry will take place Thursday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A "coffee break" and snack luncheon will be available for shoppers both days, at nominal prices. Featured for sale will be hand-knitted items, such as slippers, scarves and mit­ tens; a variety of Christmas ornaments; hand-crafted articles and many choices to help one with Christmas lists. Homemade goodies,. in­ cluding candy and preserves will be sold at the bakery booth, where the supply of bakery will be freshly stocked each day. The public is cordially invited to come to the church during the scheduled hours for an enjoyable shopping - trip. Baptize Haines Baby On Sunday, Oct. 5, Father James Gaynor officiated at the 1 p.m. ceremony in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic church, conferring the Sacred Rite of Baptism on Rebecca Ann Haines, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Haines of McHenry. The baby girl wore a long, white, hand-crocheted gown with matching cap, trimmed in pink ribbons, which was made by her grandmother, Marilyn Haines. She also was wrapped in a blanket that had been used by her brother, Eric, two and a half years ago when he was baptized in the same church. A buffet dinner was served to thirty relatives following the liturgy. Among those in attendance were grand­ parents, Mr. and Mrs. George J. Rodenkirch and Mr. and Mrs. George R. Haines; and great grand­ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin J. Stoffel, all of McHenry. According to Sandi Freund, co-chairman of the Dance committee, "We are hoping that many people will come in 50*s attire; however, we just want people to come- -in whatever dress they are comfortable." In addition to the regular fun of seeing familiar faces and visiting, there will be a dance contest, trivia questions, and certainly, many memories conjured up. Tickets were mailed to all families residing in John­ sburg School District 12; however, additional tickets can be purchased by con­ tacting either Sandi and Ted L. Freund, Pistakee Highlands; or Brit and Ken Lund, McHenry. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. Anyone needing a babysitter for the evening may choose one from the list of girls and . boys who recently participated in the Babysitting Safety Clinic, sponsored by the Johnsburg P.T.O., at the end of the last school year. The list of names of fifth grade through high school students who attended the six safety seminars and graduated with honors after completing the course and passing the test, can be received by calling either Mrs. Ronald (Nancy) Schaft or Mrs. Wayne (Patsy) Hiller, both of McHenry. ANDREW LECHNER HONEYMOON IN MISSOURI - Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lechner are residing in Mt. Prospect after a honeymoon in Missouri where they visited Silver Dollar City and the Shepherd of the Hills. The former Michele Pfeiffer, daughter of Mrs. Ann Petersen of Arlington Heights and Andrew Lechner", son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lechner, 2719 Justen road, McHenry, were married Aug. 30 at the First Congregational Community church of Island Lake. Reverend Catherine Colligan officiated at the 4 p.m. ceremony. A reception was held at the Branded Steak House, Crystal Lake, for 100 friends and relatives. The new Mrs. Lechner graduated from Main West high school and attended Harper college for three years. She is presently working for GC Services. One medium-sized deep yellow sweet potato will sup­ ply the normal person's daily need of vitamin A. Sweet Potato Secrets 1 c cold mashed sweet potatoes 4 T milk Salt and pepper 1 t baking powder 12 marshmallows Fine dry bread crumbs 2 eggs beaten Beat potatoes with a little hot milk until they are fluffy but not too soft. Mix in bak­ ing powder and seasoning. Form 2 tablespoons of potato mixture around each marshmallow. Roll in bread crumbs, then in egg which has been diluted with milk, then in bread crumbs. « Cook 3 minutes in hot fat. Drain on paper and serve at once with baked apple rings.
