r.!:: '-i t ! - I - * t ; : Mm&mmm by Colette Bouchez I think it may have been the immortal MM West who first said, "I never met a man I didn't like." Though the queen of saucy one liners had something there, I think she, would agree that every so often a man comes along who stands out from all the rest. I'm happy to say thajt an overwhelming amount of mail has come in asking about such a man, and this week Sarah G. from Springfield, Mass. says it all. Sarah writes: "I think Jaff Conaway, (Bobby on TAXI') is the sexiest guy on tele vision ... where does he get his clothes, especially his jeans ... his behind is the best on TV!" Sarah, I applaud your frankness and I heartily agree. You'll be happy to know that in addition to being Very sexy and very talented, he is also one of the nicest, warmest people in Hollywood. Very flattered, (and just a little embar rassed) by your question, Jeff, who wears many of his own clothes on the show, was eager to share his fashion secrets. Those great fitting jeans vary from Calvin Klein to Bogart to Chemin de Faire to Britannia. (All available at major department stores nation-wide.) His tall, slim body and long legs fit well into the European cut, which is. generally narrower than tradi tional American styles. Nary a bag or a sag, they do fit in ALL the right places for a look that is well put together and totally sensational. Though some of his favorite shirts are by Yves St. Laurent (located at 1271 Ave. of Americas, New York City 10020), several you have probably seen on the show are designer originals' from a London shop called EBONY, where no more than four garments are made in any one style or fabric. Bobby, (the character) is slightly more glamorous than Jeff, (the actor). He says. "I like wearing nice things, but I have been known to walk around in sweat pants nine sizes too big. hanging down to my knees ..." The thread of continui ty between them is that Jeff is very comfortable with himself. As a result, almost everything he wears,' looks good. (Yes, even those sweat pants!) Confidence is really the name of the game, and Jeff Conaway has every right to have it. A talented singer and dancer, as well as comedian, he first gained public applause in the B'way hit 'Grease,' and then repeated that part in the movie. He's been working non-stop ever since! Not easily influenced by fashion trends or fads, he does admit he likes the western look, and has worn it on the show. He was however quick to add "I've always liked western wear... I had cow boy boots and western jackets since the 60's ... I was the original 'city cowboy' . .. I'll wear it now. but not because it's a fad--I just like it." In the course of our conversa tion, I couldn't resist asking him his opinions on women's clothes ... I just had to know what appeals to one who appeals to so many. A self confessed 'neck-to-ankles man,' he smiled and added, "I like to see women dressed sexy, but not sleazy... I like nice, well-cut clothes ... I tend to lean towards skirts and dresses, you know, and I leave the rest up to the imagination." Since so many women on TV portray the roles of sex symbols, asked Jeff if he minds the reversal on 'TAXI,' where he is often the sex object. Candid, open and impres sively sincere, he replied "I don't think of myself as a sex object." He hesitated. He smiled. "But... if anybody else wants to, it's OKAY with me... I don't mind being somebody's fantasy!" He's admired by men and posi tively adored by women, but he is no fantasy . . . Jeff Conaway is refreshingly real and one of the best friends television ever had. Want to look like your favorite star?
