BRIDAL SHOWER Sunday, Oct. 12 was a beautiful afternoon for the bridal shower held at the Bob Betts home. The shower was given in honor of Kim Frendell, who will become the bride of David Betts on Nov. 8. Almost 30 friends and relatives enjoyed the af ternoon with Kim opening many lovely and useful gifts. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses Debbie (Betts) Bork, Dolores (Betts) Cornelia and Pat Foley. HERE AND THERE Monday evening, Oct. 13, Carol Haskell had a few friends and neighbors for a little get-together. Some of the neighbors up there on the hill met for the first time. Delicious cake and coffee were served and a lot of visiting done with promises of getting together again. Pat Malo was there with her little 6-week-old son, Shaun. One of the neighbors is a nurse at the hospital where Shaun was born and she enjoyed getting reacquainted with him. Hear that Bob and Martha Betts enjoyed an evening out on Sept. 30. Rte. 31) McHenry, Illinois 30th on the 30th". Hope you have thirty more. Seems like down on the other corner of town, we have had some vacationers. Len and Phyllis Ackerman, Lennie, Laura and Lisa Ackerman and Mike and Sue Thennes, along with Marvin and Joyce Ackerman of Elburn, 111. all ventured to Nisswa, Minn, to get in a bit of fishing, before the long winter nights set upon us. Yes, they did catch quite a few northern, pan fish. Lennie caught an almost 6- pounder and uncle Marv had to out-do him by getting a 9 lb., 15 oz. Northern, plus a 5 lb. walleye. But the catch of the day was accomplished by Mike Thennes. Tiss said that Phyllis is the fish cook in camp. How do you manage that for 12 people all chewing down at the same time? We almost forgot that Len's sister and husband Urban and Dorothy Decker of Union, were the senior members of the group, 'just to keep them in line', they said. Also, to show all the young folks how to play cards. The colors were just beautiful when they left, as they had rain, snow, cold and must gorgeous sun all combined. (How did the shopping go girls?) With the washing out of the way and being a nice day, Georgia and Dorothy Bauer, Arline Pearson, Phil Ackerman, Ila Hogan, Alice Peet, Doris Low and Althea Walkington, all car-pooled it and went out for a nice day of talking and reminiscing with Mertie Harrison. The coffee pots were put to use and a few goodies appeared. It was a very nice way to spend a Monday afternoon. BAPTIZED Little Alesha Ann Schiavone, daughter of Vinceand Juanita ("Mooch" Ackerman) Schiavone was baptized Sunday the twelfth of October, with Karen and Mike Schiavone as god parents. Alesha is the granddaughter of Len and Phyllis Ackerman. There wre 30 guests for lunch after the affair. Special guests were Alesha'a great-grandparents, Clayton and Virginia Bruce; great aunts and uncles, Marvin and Joyce Ackerman; Howard and Darlene Wagner; Urban and Dorothy Decker. Aunt Dorothy made the cake with pretty pink flowers and a tiny sleeping child. FAMILY REUNION Doris and Walt Low, along with Doris' mom, Mabel Thomas of McHenry at tended the annual Thomas family reunion in Bent- tendorf, Iowa. They went on Saturday, Oct. 11 and returned home Sunday af ternoon, Oct. 12. There were 53 present from Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa and Illinois. The group was small this year because of illness and other obligations, but hopefully next year there'll be nearer the 75 or so that is usually there. It's good to get together like this once a year and see relatives from other parts of the country. They figured this group has been getting together for 16 years now, so that the younger generation will get to know each other better. This way the country cousins and the city cousins get to know who's who. The weather was beautiful so again the little ones got to go for their walk along the Mississippi River with Uncle Duke. BIRTHDAYS Oct. 22 is the day that Marion Kane will add another candle to her cake, and Oct. 23, we find Ernie Malsch,Dick Assin and Brian J. Etten adding another year. Oct. 23 is that special day for Ben Jacobs, Jr., and Diane Palermo, with Jeff Sonnemaker adding another year Oct. 14. J.C. Pearson, Kevin Bauer and Marie Mergl are sharing their natal day, Oct. 27. "Happy Birthday" to all of you wonderful people and we do wish you many more. ANNIVERSARIES Oct. 22 is that special day that Ingaborg and Sig Jacobson celebrate every year, and this year it will total 42 years of marriage. "Happy Anniversary" to you two and we wish you many more years of wedded bliss. THINGS TO REMEMBER Oct. 19 - Worship services - 9:15 a.m. - Ringwood church.
