'Live From Lincoln Center,' now in its fifth season on PBS is televised nationally as part of Great Perfor mances. Montserrat Caballe (pictured), born in Barcelona, is one of the world's leading sopranos. Since making her New York debut in 1965 in a concert version of Lucrezia Borgia at Carnegie Hall, she has appeared in every major opera house in the United States and abroad. During the 1978-79 season, she made her long-awaited debut with the New York Philharmonic in a series of concerts in which she sang Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs and the final scene from Salome. One of Italy's leading mezzo-sopranos, Bianca Berini was born in Trieste where she made her professional debut. With an uncommonly rich mezzo-soprano voice, her repertoire encompasses the bel canto idiom of Donizetti and Bellini, the repertoire of Verdi, the verismo roles of Cilea, Ponchielli and Mascagni and extends to Wagner as Ortrud in Lohengrin and La Haine in Gluck's Armide. Bulgarian tenor Michail Svetlev has sung leading Italian roles in every major German opera house, including the Deutsche Oper of Berlin, the Hamburg Staatsoper, the Munich Opera and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein of Dusseldorf. He is making his American debut this season in Verdi's Requiem. Martti Talvela, born in the East Finnish province of Karelia in 1935, possesses what many consider one of the world's great bass voices. His musical career began in 1960 when he won First Prize in a national lieder competition in Finland. He made his professional opera debut in 1961 as Sparafucile in Rigoletto with the Stockholfa Royal Opera.
