Mr. Carlson was a long-time resident of Ringwood and had moved to Richmond many years ago. He passed away on Monday, Oct. 20, at the Burlington hospital after a prolonged illness. HERE AND THERE Seems like it doesn't pay for some people to go out "Koffee Klotchin' " and to take the goodies. All it did for Dorothy Bauer was make her sick. Just kidding Dorothy. We are truly sorry you ended up with having to have surgery. By this writing we sincerely hope you will be home recuperating. 'Twas a beautiful sunny day Saturday, Oct. 18 and the Women of the Moose had a bus trip to Mooseheart. Phyllis Ackerman and Doris Low were fortunate enough to be able to go with the W.O.T.M. and enjoy the day besides seeing all the benefits of the children of Mooseheart. They discovered that at one time there were 1,200 children housed there and now there are only a little over 300 children. If we were ever left orphaned or with one struggling parent and the father was a Moose member this is where we'd like to go. It's fantastic down there. We had a very educational trip. BIRTHDAYS Happy birthday goes to Bill Billikis Oct. 28, with Barb Hanson celebrating on Oct. 30. Oct. 31 is that special day for Nancy Hardies, she will be 80 years young and I'm sure she would appreciate cards from her freinds. Nancy is at Care- stoel, so send them there, . Connie Hopp is also adding another year October 31, and we send our best to Connie on her day. Nov. 1 is that special day for Alice Walker and Mrs. Karen Bazilwitch; and little Cori Lynn Crocfer, way out there in California, will be a year old. Nov. 2 we find Vic Hopp and Murrell Butler adding another candle to their cake and Nov. 3 is that special day for George Lehman. "Happy Birthday" to all of you wonderful people and we do hope you have many more. ANNIVERSARIES Oct. 29 was a busy day as we find there were two weddings on that day; Richard and Tina Gorski, out there on Ridgeway; and Donna (Lovtf & Phil Crocfer, way out there in California. "Happy Anniversary" to two wonderful couples, and we wish you many, many more years of happiness. DATES TO REMEMBER Oct. 25 - Greenwood Turkey Dinner. By Stanley James For many years, the American painter and etcher James Abbott McNeil Whistler was as well known among his comtemporaries for his witty personality as he was for his works of art. Very outspoken, he once was extremely hostile to a wealthy client who was dis satisfied with his portrait painted by Whistler. "I really think that it's a bad work of art," the client said. Whistler shrugged and said, "But then you must admit that you're not a good work of nature." While visiting an artist friend, Whistler noticed a newly framed painting done by his host. The friend, elated over his work, ad mitted that he had written a sonnet about the nl^v art and asked Whistler's advice on both. "Take out the picture and frame the sonnet," was the reply. A U.S. commemorative stamp was issued in 1940 in Whistler's honor. The stamp, issued in his home town of Lowell, Mass., was part of the Famous Ameri cans Commemorative series. Six years earlier, a repro duction of his famed "Por trait of My Mother" ap peared on another com memorative stamp issued in 1934 as a tribute to American mothers.
