NOVEMBER 5, 11 McCullom Lake Margaret Loewe 344-0811 Beach Gals Plan Party The Beach Gals' meeting will be Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. We will discuss our Christmas party and also the Christmas party we have planned for the children of the village. Karen Parks is in charge of entertainment this month. She has scheduled a speaker to talk about the pros and cons of the tax referendum for School District 15. It will be voted on Nov. 15. If anyone is interested in attending, please come to the beach house at 8:30 p.m. this should be a very in teresting topic to anyone who has school age children. Refreshments will be served after the discussion. I hope to see you there. SWEET ADELINES Helen Nash, a Beach Gal, Isabel O'Brien and Sherry Dulberg, auditioned and were accepted in the McHenry chapter of the Sweet Adelines. The motto of the Sweet Adelines is "Harmonize the World". We are really happy and proud of the three of vou. NEW ADDITION Cathy Dulberg, also a Sweet Adeline, and her husband Dave, added a new addition to their family. Michael David, a bouncing baby boy weighing in at 7 lbs., 14 oz., arrived in the world Aug. 22. We wish the lucky family the best of luck and much happiness. LADIES OF THE LAKE Ladies of the Lake will have a meeting Nov. 13, at 8 p.m. and will be planning their Christmas party. All ladies of the village are welcome. GET WELL JoAnne Weisenberger's mother, Mrs. Jean Reed, had a turn of bad luck, while she and her husband were vacationing in Las Vegas. Jean fell down and sprained her ankle. She is starting to recover nicely, but our sympathy goes to her and we hope she has better luck next time. Don Lasco has been in the hospital for the past few weeks. We hope you start to feel better and come home soon. COLUMNIST LEAVES I am grateful for all of the wonderful people of the village who have called to give me information to print in the column. It has given me a chance to meet many of my neighbors that I would otherwise not have known. I have found that lately I do not have enough time to devote to writing this column. In all fairness to the citizens of McCullom I^ake, I feel that it is time to allow someone else to participate in the community by writing this column. If anyone is interested in writing the column they should get in touch with the Flaindealer. Myasthenia Gravis MG Week Set For Nov. 2-8 .American Viewpoints The trust that we put in ourselves makes us feel trust in others. La Rochefoucauld Gov. James R. Thompson, has proclaimed Nov. 2-8, M y a s t h e n i a G r a v i s Awareness week in Illinois. In support of MG week, the Easter Seal Society for McHenry county, which treats clients of all ages and disabilities, would like to increase public awareness of this disease. The name "Myasthenia Gravis" comes from Greek and Latin words meaning "serious muscle weakness". It is a neuromuscular disease characterized by varying weakness of the voluntary muscles of the body. This weakness is abnormally increased by continued or repeated use of the muscles at any one time and partially relieved by a short period of rest. The symptoms often come and go, making early recognition at times dif ficult. The symptoms may be any of the following alone or in combination: drooping of one or both eyelids, blurred vision, double vision, loss of facial expression, difficulty in chewing or swallowing, an easily fatigued slurred voice, difficulty in breathing, difficulty in raising the arms overhead, weakness in the arms and hands, difficulty in extending the fingers, weakness in flexing the thighs at the hips, weakness in the lower limbs especially when trying to walk on the heels. MG is one of the most insidious afflictions known to man, a crippler and potential killer that may masquerade as vitamin deficiency, anemia, neurosis or psychoneurosis. There are about 240,000 individuals suffering Myasthenia Gravis in the United States. At the Easter Seal Therapy center in Wood stock, therapists working under a doctor's prescription can aid the Myasthenic. Speech language therapy At Montini provides techniques to improve quality of voice and speech. The occupational and physical therapists, using the team approach, work with the myasthenic in energy conservation, work simplification, self care skills and activities of daily living. For more information write The Myasthenia Gravis foundation, Inc., Greater Chicago Area Chapter, P.O. Parents are asked to return their child's report card to his homeroom teacher when they come for conferences. Families are not scheduled specific times for conference, they may come at their convenience. Teachers have been asked to limit each conference to ten minutes so as to maintain an even flow.
