PACK 6 - PI AINDFA1KR - FRIDAY. NOVEMBER 7.1986 1 i m m i ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS-went to four McHenry Warriors as a result of a Fox Valley Conference coaches meeting held Monday night. At the left is Rob Kalck, a halfback that racked up three games of 100 yards or more. Kalck served as a Co-captain under coach Joe Schlender. Above, Keith Belzer passed his way to all-conference honors as he continually hit Tim Klapperich and Dave D'Angelo. Belzer was helped considerably by offensive lineman, Andy Saunders (72 above and bottom left), who was one of the strongest linemen in the Fox Valley and used his strength to Mock for Kalck and protect Belzer. Below at Right is Dave D'Angelo (40), the flashiest Warrior who ran three kickoffs back for touchdowns this season. STAFF PHOTOS-WAYNE GAYLORD Four All-Conference Warriors The Fox Valley Con ference football coaches selected four McHenry football player as members of the I960 All-Conference squad at a meeting in Crystal Lake on Monday. A total of 33 players were selected to the squad as Dave D'Angelo, halfback, Rob Kalck, halfback, Andy Saunders, offensive tackle and Keith Belzer, quar terback, were the Warrior entries. There were four unanimous picks on the team as quarterback Neil Britt and end Grant Barry of Cary-Grove joined John Simon, a halfback from Crystal Lake Central, and Bob Jewell, a halfback from Crystal Lake South. At 135 pounds, Dave D'Angelo was the smallest player to make all- conference as the senior halfback for McHenry served as one of the team captains and lettered in 1979. He was the highest scorer on the Warriors and sixth among conference scorers with 9 touchdowns. He soon became known as a kickoff threat, running two kicks back for 87-yard touchdowns and one back for an 80 yard score. Teams deliberately kicked away from D'Angelo after that, but this didn't stop him from scoring on runs of 60,47, and 33 yards as well as catching passes of 49, 25, and 24 yards for touch downs. His best game this season as a rusher came against Dundee, as he rushed three times for 67 yards and caught 2 passes for 29 yards. In his best game as a receiver, D'Angelo caught 7 Belzer passes for 98 yards and he has ranked in the top ten in the state for most of the season. Rob Kalck is also a senior captain at 185 pounds, and lettered for coach Joe Schlender last year. Like D'Angelo, Kalck also returned a kick for 90 yards and a touchdown this season, but unlike D'Angelo, he did most of his damage on the ground, hammering out more than 100 yards in three different games and averaging about 5.4 yards per carry. He accumulated touch down runs of 36, 23, and 32 yards in five carries to paydirt, while catching two passes of 23 and four yards for touchdowns. Quarterback Keith Belzer has also been among the state's top ten for most of the season, averaging 96.5 yards in the air per game. He completed 64 passes in 138 attempts for a 47 per cent completion average. His average completion was 13.5 yards as Tim Klapperich joined D'Angelo and Kalck as his primary targets. Andy Saunders wore number 72 for the Warriors and was rarely in the limelight, but he is probably the biggest reason that Belzer was so successful as he kept the pass rush away from the Warrior quar terback from his offensive tackle spot. Saunders was also one of the senior captains as he started all of the 1979 games, playing both offense and defense. At 185 pounds, Saunders was not the biggest lineman in the conference , but he was one of the strongest. Both Woodstock and Cary- Grove had seven representatives on the all- conference squad, while Crystal Lake Central ac cumulated five, Crystal Lake South and McHenry four, Crown three, Jacobs two and Dundee one player For those interested, a composite of all the Fox Valley all-conference players was put together and it shows the average player to be 181 pounds, 5' 11" tall and is a senior.
