KWIATT Irene C. Kwiatt, 3212 W. Skyway drive, McHenry, died Friday, Nov. 14, at McHenry hospital. She was 85 years old, born in Poland Aug. 13,1895, the daughter of Anton and Theofilia Czer- winski. Mrs. Kwiatt lived in McHenry about 22 years, having come from Chicago. She was a retired seam stress. Her husband, Stanley, preceded her in death in 1952. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Leonard (Wanda) Gehrke of McHenry; one son, Edward Kwiatt of Elk Grove Village and five grandchildren. A funeral Mass was held Monday, 9:30 a.m., at St. Mary's church, McHenry, with burial in St. Adalbert's cemetery, Niles. Visitation was Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home. MARIA MAYOR Maria Yolanda S. Mayor, 25, of 1224 N. Green street* > 4: McHenry, died Sunday, Nov. ' 16, in McHenry hospital, after a long illness. She was born Aug. 3, 1955, in Manila to Fructuoso and Pelagia (Serafico) Mayor. She is survived by her parents and a brother, Benjamin, also of Manila. Ms. Mayor graduated with high honors from Far Eastern University high school, class of 1972; Eastern university class of 1977, with a B.S. in Nursing; worked at the Philippines Veterans hospital in Quezon City, Philippines. She came to the U.S. under the sponsorship of Carestoel Professional Care Center in March, 1980, where she was employed until her illness. A funeral Mass will be conducted Thursday, 10 a.m., at St. Mary's church, with interment in Paranaque Metro, Manila, Philippines, Visitation will be after 3:30 p.m. at the George R. Justen & Son funeral home. The family requests no flowers, please, and memorials may be made in her name to the McHenry State bank. WALTER J. SHAPPERT Walter J. Shappert, 61, of 310 W. Rand road, Lakemoor, died Thursday, Nov. 13, in the McHenry hospital emergency room. He was born May 6, 1919, in Chicago, to Walter and Felicia Shappert. A^ 27-year resident of the area, Mr. Shappert belonged to St. Mary's Catholic church, McHenry; was a 26- year employee of Outboard Motor Corp., Waukegan, as a polisher; member of Riverside Athletic club and a watch repairman during his lifetime. He was also a WW II Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife Nora (Pish), whom he married Sept. 27, 1941 in Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. John (Sherie) Stark of W a u k e g a n ; C y n t h i a Shappert of McHenry; Mrs. David (Jaye) Penoyer of Cary; one granddaughter, Karla and a sister, Berniece Gronceski, of Wisconsin. Visitation was Sunday afternoon, at the George R. Justen & Son funeral home, with a funeral service Monday, 10:30 a.m. in the home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Mark L. Petty, son of David T. and Yvonne Petty of 1013 N. Cherry Valley road and George C. Bell, son of George B. and Kathleen M. Bell of 6109 Greenwood road, Wonder Lake, are par ticipating in the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program at the University of Illinois, Champaign. College students are selected for the NROTC program on the basis of scores attained on national college aptitude tests, leadership potential, and physical aptitude. They must be recommended for the program by school authorities and approved by a board of officers. NROTC midshipmen study Naval Science subjects and per form military drills in ad dition to their college studies. At least one summer is spent training with the Navy or Marine Corps in exercises at sea or at shore in stallations. Those who complete four years of NROTC participation are commissioned as reserve officers in the Navy or Marine corps upon graduation.
