Village of McHenry Shores Inge Aide 344-1984 Rose Lillegard 385-4517 Road Project Progresses Numerous phone calls have been received by this reporter as to the status of the road project. For those who are concerned, Or dinance Number 91 was passed that created the Board of Local Im provements by virtue of Illinois state statute. It also spells out the members who are the village president; all trustees; Chris Foot, secretary and the village attorney and engineer. George Heck was appointed engineer and Poper, attorney. The Board of Local Im provements has its meetings separate from the Village Board of Trustees meetings. At the first Board of Local Improvements meeting, president Grimes gave his report of the unit meetings that were held informally regarding interest of the residents in that area for road repairs. A petition was presented with signatures of interested parties providing for special assessment, in the event certain conditions were met. (This petition is a matter of public record and can be viewed at the village hall during normal business hours.) Also, at this first meeting, approval was given to the engineers to proceed with necessary documentation (this is why you are viewing red X's throughout the village). Roads that were com missioned for the engineers to study included all those south of the creek from Broadway to Barreville and the full length of Broadway, Hilltop and McHenry avenues. Also included was Miller drive, from Hilltop to Broadway. (It was noted that although some areas did not sign the petition, it was more financially beneficial to do the study at this time and then drop certain roads than to include them at a later date. It is this reporter's un derstanding that after the completion of the engineer study, certified letters will be sent to all property owners who are affected and a public hearing will be held. This proceedure would be necessary in order to petition the courts for special assessment. The Board of Local Im provements were at tempting to shoot for the first of December for the public hearing. Since this First meeting of the Board of Local Improvements, several special meetings have been called, which this reporter was not aware of, and will report on next week in this column. CONGRATULATIONS In recent months it has come to our attention that one couple living in McHenry Shores and a second couple, formerly of McHenry Shores celebrated their Golden wedding an niversary. Both couples wish to remain anonymous, but from their many friends who know, "we pass on our congratulations and many, many more happy years. ELECTIONS Now that the November presidential election and school referendum are over, we look toward the April Elections which will be the first consolidation to be held. The consolidations will include among others the village, township and school board elections. We will concern ourselves with only the dates and deadlines for the village elections. In the Village of McHenry Shores, the following will be elected, 3 trustees for 4-year terms and 2 trustees for 2- year terms, to fill the unexpired terms of resigned trustees. Petition dates and deadlines will be forth coming in future columns. HELP-HELP Your two columnists, like everyone else, took well needed extended vacations. We want to volte a weekly column for you but we need your help. To publish just one event or birthday is not exactly a column. We need at least several each week. We are sure that your children have had special events either at school, church or scouts, etc. and that they would be thrilled to see their name in print. Please call us so that we can provide your column on a more regular basis. -- * • • e Every special group has special reasons to justify its special demands for special privileges. Many still have minor children in their care, and their financial resources are often limited."
