The new members were introduced to the congregation and received a certificate of church membership at the altar rail from Pastor Roger W. Schneider. The new members joined in a receiving line at the door of the church at the con­ clusion of the service to be greeted by the congregation. After the service, a recep­ tion in honor of the new families was hosted in the Fireside room by Wally and Beth Johnson, Maggie and David. Applicants must be studying in areas of social work, community mental health, psychiatry, psychology, or physchiatric nursing. They must also be residents of McHenry county or have been working in this county in a mental health related field. Interested persons may receive more information by calling Mrs. Peter F. Twice Told Tales FIFTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of November 20, 1930) The concert sponsored by the choir of the Methodist church was a success and was a musical treat for all who heard it. The music by the orchestra, composed of about 20 young people, directed by Miss Elsie Vycital, was an appropriate opening for the program and the songs of the choir as well as the solo numbers were all greatly enjoyed. Charles Roasman, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Rossman, was the victim of a serious accident when part of his right foot was taken off in a corn shredder. The shredder was husking corn on the M. H. Detrick farm. A School Boys' patrol is now in operation at the St. Mary's school in McHenry, arrangements having been made by L.J. Schuler, assistant director of safety for the Chicago Motor club. Now patrol boys can be seen looking after the safety of the scholars at this school every morning, noon and afternoon. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of November 21, 1940) Mr. and Mrs. Frank Blake, lifetime residents of McHenry, celebrated their silver wedding anniversary Nov. 16. Father Berthold performed the ceremony. Announcement was made that four McHenry county youths are scheduled to be called up for a year of military service under the selective draft. With four volunteers already listed for the No. 2 board and three from the No. 1 board, it is likely that the first quota from the county will be filled from the volunteer list. Joseph E. J us ten and Mr. and Mrs. Alex J us ten attended the Iowa-Notre Dame football game at Notre Dame, Ind., and visited Daniel Justen, who is a student at the college. Carroll, McHenry county Circuit court judge, has decided to be a canddiate for the Republican nomination for judge of the Illinois Supreme court from the Sixth district to All the vacancy created by the recent resignation of Justice William J. Fulton. Bob Voigts, football coach of Northwestern university, will be guest speaker at the annual football banquet to be held in the high school cafeteria. With the redistricting portion of the Blue Ballot amendment having been supported so over­ whelmingly at the polls, it is expected that the number of downstate single county legislative districts for election of House members may grow from three to 10. The state will be divided into 59 house districts to elect three members each to the lower House and 38 Senate districts, to elect one senator each to the upper House. At present there are 51 districts, with one senator and three representatives from each district. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of November 20, 1970) Charles P. Weingart of McHenry was reelected as president of the Lake- McHenry district of Associated Milk Producers, Inc. Avery A. Vose, the Antioch dairyman who is a member of the A.M.P.I. board of directors and treasurer of the entire association, was reelected to serve a three-year term on the advisory board of Division 2 in the Tri-State region. In a preliminary report of the 1970 census, the city of McHenry, with a present population figure of 6,MS, has the largest rate of change-99.1 percent-in the 10-year period. This resulted largely because of the 1987 Lakeland Park annexation, which brought the city population to 5,943. There has been a gain of 700 par­ sons in the last three years. Plans for a proposed referendum to raise the education rate in High School District 156 occupied much of the discussion of the regular board meeting. SERVICE NEWS; PROMOTED Francis A. Lagowski, son of Mae H. Lagowski of 4702 Garden Quarters, McHenry, has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of senior master sergeant. Sgt. Lagowski is a job controller at K.I. Sawyer Air Force base, Mich. ON-CAMPUS DAY Two students from McHenry high school West were among visitors who attended a Nov. 14 on- caihpus day at , the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater. They were Kim and Brad Salman, 6907 Mason Hill road. Kim is a senior, Brad a sophomore.
