Please your guests from start to finish. Too often, we put all our effort into the party itself, but little care goes into the invitation. Re place the casual telephone invitation with the thought- fulness of a written, mailed version. They're fun to cre ate and fun to receive. 2. Size up your party room. Consider the size of your room relative to the size of your guest list It's always better to fill the room with too many people rather than too few -- but know your limitations. 3. Engage sufficient, com petent staff. As a general rule of thumb, hire a barten der for a party of 10 or more and a caterer when guests number over 25. A caterer can help you plan a menu, saving you aggravation and money. You'll have more time for your guests and not be faced with cleanup duties. 4. Don't weigh your guests down with heavy food. So many people are calorie- conscious today. Consider a menu of healthy, rather than rich, foods. You may want to include vegetarian and fish dishes. Prepare dishes ahead and refrigerate. Just warm them up when guests arrive. 5. You are a cruise direc tor. Check continuously on the pleasure and welfare of your guests. Be sure thdre is plenty of ice and plenty of conversation. When intro ducing guests, mention more than names -- find a com mon bond between them. And you don't need to adhere to the old rule of inviting the same number of men as women. After all, you're en tertaining, not running a dat ing service. 0. Map out your party. Create a traffic pattern for bar and food. Locate the bar away from the food to avoid congestion and encourage movement and mingling. 7. Take proper care of drinks. Use fresh glasses for each round. A drop or two of the stale drink can spoil the. flavor of a new one. Fresh ice is a must, also. To re move the frosty look from ice cubes, sprinkle them with lukewarm water. Bet ter yet, serve crystal clear, packaged ice -- it's free of chemicals, impurities and air bubbles. It's also taste less since it hasn't picked up any freezer odors. 8. Remember the little de tails. Live or taped music bolsters the party atmos phere. Adequate parking and seating are necessities. Use plenty of candles -- their ef fect helps disperse cigarette smoke in a room. Refri gerate your candles before using -- they will drip less and last longer. 9. Invite the ideal guest. He or she knows when it's time to leave. LoBosco runs a total party planning service staffed by accredited design profes sionals. They package and service entire parties of every size.
