The club meets at the McHenry American Legion on Ringwood Road on the third Thursday of each month. Meetings begin at 8:15 pm. No meeting will be held in December, but the club will celebrate with a Christmas party at the Legion Hall. Anyone in­ terested in joining the sports car club may attend a meeting. EARL WALSH' So I Hear Another holiday is nearing and that means an early deadline. Thanksgiving is just a drumstick away. The day to give thanks is not what it used to be, but still has great significance. It isn't a sleigh ride in a straw filled bobsled to grandma's house on the farm. Now it is grandchildren of our own coming to grand­ ma's to feast on turkey and love. Life brings both joy and sadness, but there is always an overshadowing sense of h a p p i n e s s w h e n Thanksgiving Day arrives and we reflect on our blessings. WE ARE THANKFUL: To be around for another Thanksgiving. For arch supports. They give a fellow a lift. That I have just as much hair on my noggin' as last year -- give or take a strand or two. For sports events. For true friends. The wishy-washy kind I can do without. For turn-the-button heat, air conditioning, electric lights and indoor plumbing (compare these to the so- called good old days). For strong young men to shovel our snow. For all four seasons. For Christmas, but wish it wouldn't start so early. For bird seed. We wouldn't have enough crumbs left over at our table to feed the little creatures. For people like Vern Sund and Henry Jackson who tell me some great stories. That elections don't come more often. That Dick Tracy has lived through so many scrapes. For baseball dinners at Johnsburg. Real fun. For happy memories of good friends who have left this earth. For grandchildren who tell me they love me. Notes and drawings are precious. There are people who don't take the "What have you done for me lately? attitude. That TV commercials aren't any longer. Some are corny. Some are painful. For an old fashioned coffee pot and a gal who brews the best. For sip and snack spots where it is fun to meet and greet good preople. As I told you before, I love the friendly waitresses. For people who say, "You have lost weight, haven't you?" For policemen, firemen, rescue squad personnel, doctors and nurses (ah, nurses!) For friends like . Petie Schaefer who keep things stirred up with Cub fans. That inflation, as bad as it is, isn't worse. How high is up? For a birthday gift of homemade doughnuts. For an appetite that needs curbing. For a high class group of clergymen in our com­ munity. For good health. Not necessarily for the shape I'm in. For the telephone even if tonight the busy signal has buzzed in my ear in 4 out of 5 calls. For good neighbors. For good school (they need more money to make them "gooder".) That hats are coming back for men. For me they never went away. For fond memories even with a fading memory. (Am told other people forget names, too). That there aren't more holidays when our dear editor "Brenda" cracks the whip and reminds us we have to write three columns in a week to meet early deadlines.
