McGinley, Commander of District 15 Illinois State Police, assigned to the tollroad, informs motorists traveling the Illinois Tollway that a crackdown on toll evaders starts Wednesday, Dec. 3 and continues until the violation rate has decreased drastically. The off-the-main road toll plazas that are unmanned will be the highest con centration of police sur veillance. Signs have been posted at each unmanned plaza stating that toll violaters will be arrest and fined. "We now intend to watch these plazas closely and enforce the warning stated on those signs", McGinley stated. Some of the problem spots include DeKalb East, Farnsworth avenues in Aurora, Midwest road and Spring road in Oak Brook, and Half Day road in the Waukegan area. The toll required in exact change at the unmanned plazas is posted before each station telling motorists that exact change is needed and also the required amount. The violation is the same as a traffic violation in that a bond of either a valid Illinois driver's license, $35 in cash, or an Illinois recognized bail bond card are the only three things that can be posted before the driver is released. McGinley stated "The bond of $35 is approximately 116 times the 30 cents toll that must be paid." By Secretary of State Most football fans are aware of the accident which recently paralyzed Steve Little, former kicker for the St. Louis Cardinals. The investigating officer at the scene said that Little ap parently was the victim of hydroplaning Hydroplaning, which can cause skidding, takes (dace when you're driving on wet pavement. At speeds up to 35 m.p.h., most tires will 'wipe" the road surface much the same way a windshield wiper cleans the windshield. But, as the speed increases, the tires can't "wipe" the road as well, and start to ride up on a film of water just like a set of water skis. In a standard passenger car, partial hydroplaning begins at about 35 m.p.h., and increases with speed, to about 55 m.p.h. At this point, the tires may be totally up on the water. In a severe rainstorm, for example, the tires lose all contact with the road at 55 m.p.h. If this is the case, there is no friction available to brake, accelerate or corner. A gust of wind, a change of road curve or a slight turn can create an uncontrollable skid. This is a fungus infec tion of the beard-barbae be ing the Latin word for beard. Although some infections in the beard area are mostly bacterial, fungus infections do occur, especially among agricultural workers. The only way to diagnose fungus infections of the beard is with micro-biologic study (use of a miscroscope). The best treatment for tinae barbae is Griseofulvin, orally. Sometimes cortisone is used effectively. A strange and mysterious skin manifestation is called the "id" reaction. This is a fungus-free lesion elsewhere on the body, caused by the active fdngal process. It is thought to be a hyperiensitivity reaction to the ftngus itself. Therefore, don'; be surprised if, when you visit a doctor for a spot on your neck, arm, etc., he astfc you to take off your sMtes and let him see your tra in all likelihood, you are experiencing an id reaction and the doctor's treatment of your athlete's foot will probably result in a resolu tion of the lesion, which brought about your visit to the doctor. Therefore, treatment of the id reaction consists of treatment of the underlying fungal cause--with oral Griseofulvin, or local applica tion of Tinactin to the fungus site. Application of medica tion to the id reaction will be ineffective. Never resist temptation: prove all things: , hold fast to that which is good. -George Bernard Shaw.
