Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Laurell are the new proprietors and they will open the new place in the Math Laures building this week serving meals, short orders, lunches, etc. George Freund nearly lost a finger when the first finger cm his left hand became caught in his feed grinding machine. The finger was led out of joint and was idly crushed and mangled, but it is healing nicely and the entire finger will be saved. City Cleric Ray Conway resigned his position with the City. The board appointed Peter A. Neiss to succeed Mr. Conway. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of December 6, 1940) For several years now musical-minded persons have conceived the idea of forming a choral club in McHenry. Several weeks ago, the idea arose again among a few who feel that a really good choral society can be produced out of the material available in McHenry in the way of voices. The results obtained by contacting more than 25 men and women of various ages has been gratifying as more than 20 have expressed a willingness and a desire to belong to such an organization. First practice has been set Dec. 9 in the school auditorium. Sixteen people were given preliminary examination for citizenship papers by a special United States agent who visited the office of Circuit Court Clerk Will T. Conn. Those examined from McHenry were Arthur F. Edstrom, Benny K. Miller and Olga Nordin. The county treasurer announced the final tax distribution for the year of $458,425.93, bringing the total collection and distribution of 1939 taxes for McHenry county to $1,251,068.73 or 93.8 percent of the total bill of $1,332,824.35. TWENTY-FIVE YEARSAGO (Taken from the files of November 23, 1955) William Pictor, in charge of the Christian Rural Overseas Program in McHenry township, has secured the assistance of most of his agriculture students, who have added this to their long list of community service. The boys contacted most of the farmers, who signified their intention of contributing. They will pick up the corn promised, after which it will be taken to Woodstock, shelled and stored until the collection is ' complete throughout the county. E. Joseph Gausden, local alderman, attended an in teresting and educational meeting of the Illinois Municipal league in Springfield. Hundreds of other city and village of ficials from throughout the state were also in at tendance. Mr. Gausden heard explanations of city tax procedure, police work now being carried on at all levels and discussions for general improvements in city government of TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the. files December 2, 1970) The McHenry Warriors successfully defended their Lake Zurich Thanksgiving tournament crown when they overwhelmed their opponents in defeating Wauconda 65-46, Stevenson 70-56 and Lake Zurich 70-54. McHenry appeared to get better with each new game and showed their finest all- around effort in the cham pionship contest against Lake Zurich. Seniors Bruce Harbecke, Len Gehrke, Gary Hosier, Jerry Miller and Joe Dehn plus juniors Mark Hoffman, Gary Fenner and Ron Miller received . about equal amounts of floor time in the tournament with Don Prazak, Randy Neiss and John Diedrich seeing quite a bit of action. AtTbeDump Two ladies were overheard chatting. "Whenever I'm down in the dumps, 1 get myself a new hat," said one. The re sponse was anything but flatter ing: "1 always wondered where you got them." Chapel Theft Shocks Many Like many of the residents in the area I was shocked to read about the theft of priceless items from the Miller chapel. Priceless because the sentiment that goes with them makes them so. Irreplaceable. You can't put a monetary value on something like that. I myself have visited the chapel; a monument to the people who built it. To think that the building has stood open to those who would go to say a silent prayer for 101 years. How far our society has slipped when some can steal from the Lord. NEW ARRIVAL The Accettura household will be bustling this Christmas with the arrival of a bouncing baby girl. Kelly Joy arrived Tues day, Nov. 25 at 5:50 a.m. weighing 7 lbs., 10 oz. She was born in the Lake Forest hospital and is the first child of Toni and Nick Accettura of 1416 Bayview lane, Sun nyside. Kelly's maternal grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Peter Straka of Lindenhurst. The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Nick Ac cettura of Madison, Wis. Congratulations to the mom and dad on their new baby girl. BEREAVEMENT Friends and neighbors of Norbert Lippert extend their sincere sympathy to the family. His children, Marge and Greg Frost, Ed and Julie Ozog, and Kathy and Norb Lippert, Jr., all reside in the Sunnyside area.
